In a dramatic turn of events, Novak Djokovic ended his bid for the 25th Grand Slam title after getting beaten by a teenager for the first time in his career at a major. The 45-year-old, who said he “ran out of gas”, praised his opponent Joao Fonseca and called him the “better player” in the third round of Roland Garros 2026. Despite this devastating loss, former World No.1 Andy Roddick praised the Serbian’s athleticism and assured he will be back to his form by Wimbledon.
During his podcast on YouTube, called “Andy Roddick’s Served Media”, the 2003 US Open champ praised the Serbian’s mental strength and physical stamina despite his age. Roddick also went on to defend the 24x Grand Slam champion’s form in spite of his early French Open exit and showed a glimmer of hope for the upcoming grass court major tournament.

Novak Djokovic missed the golden opportunity to claim the 2026 French Open title, despite World No. 1 Jannik Sinner and World No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz being out of the picture. After the match, the 45-year-old praised Joao Fonseca for his incredible shots, especially in those crucial fourth and fifth sets.
“I think he without a doubt was a better player in important moments and those crucial fourth and fifth sets. You know, some amazing exchanges and points, and he just found incredible shots.” – Djokovic said.
On being asked whether the Serbain will return to the Paris clay court next year, the tennis veteran showed hesitation and dismissed the question by saying “I don’t know”.
Following the third round defeat, Novak Djokovic will pursue his 25th Grand Slam title bid at the major grass court event, Wimbledon, at the All England Club in London, England, slated for July 12, 2026.
