A breastfeeding awareness walkathon was held at Besant Nagar Beach in Chennai on Saturday, ahead of World Breastfeeding Week, bringing together healthcare professionals, medical students, nurses and volunteers to promote the importance of breastfeeding and donor human milk.
Organised by the Neonatology Association of Tamil Nadu in association with the Rotary Club of Chennai Kilpauk, the event highlighted exclusive breastfeeding during the first six months of life, continued breastfeeding with appropriate complementary feeding, and the role of human milk banks in improving outcomes for sick and preterm newborns.
The organisers said sustained support from families, healthcare providers, workplaces, communities and policymakers is essential to help mothers breastfeed successfully and improve maternal and child health.
