An uber-popular AEW star who has been absent from programming is finally set to return to action for the first time in over five months.
The star in question here is none other than Eddie Kingston, who missed almost a year and a half due to a leg fracture before making his long-awaited return at AEW All Out last year. Following his comeback, the Mad King was featured occasionally, and at first many thought he was being eased back in. However, the last time we saw the former Continental Champion on TV was in February, when he competed in a parking-lot fight on Collision.
Kingston’s prolonged absence has certainly raised questions and concerns about his status, but fans of the 44-year-old will be pleased to see that their Mad King is finally returning to action this Saturday on Collision. Kingston’s arrival coincides with his participation in the Continental Cup, and he will face Jake Doyle of The Don Callis Family in the tournament’s first round.

Eddie Kingston’s recent absence from AEW TV reportedly due to mobility issues
In the latest episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, analysts Dave Meltzer and Bryan Alvarez discussed Eddie Kingston’s ongoing hiatus from the Jacksonville-based promotion. When Alvarez questioned his absence despite being super popular with fans, Meltzer claimed that the Mad King has no place in current plans, noting that his leg injury seemed to have caused mobility issues, as apparent in his wrestling performances.
“Because they have cards. And they focus on the guys on the cards, and he’s not on the cards. Is he going to make the cards better? You want to add another match to these pay-per-views?… Have you seen Eddie Kingston wrestle since he came back? He’s not, as you know, he came back from a broken leg, he’s not mobile. Well, he’ll work hard, people will get behind him and everything, but there’s a reason.” [1:00-1:37]
