Welcome along to the latest rendition of Sportskeeda Wrestling’s AEW News & Rumor Roundup. Today, we are looking at stories involving major All Elite Wrestling stars, including Tommaso Ciampa and Adam Copeland (fka Edge).

A heartbreaking update has surfaced about the status of a popular star in All Elite Wrestling. Meanwhile, AEW GrandSlam: Mexico featured a blockbuster debut, and Adam Copeland paid tribute to a major wrestling legend. We’ve got some exciting All Elite Wrestling news stories to cover today, so without further delay, let’s get the roundup underway.

#5. Eddie Kingston’s absence from AEW programming reportedly down to movement issues

Eddie Kingston has been noticeably absent from television programming for an extended period. After returning to active competition at All Out last year, following a year-and-a-half-long absence due to a broken leg, The Mad King competed regularly for several months. However, he has been completely absent from television since February, last appearing in a physical Parking Lot Fight on Collision. He has primarily competed under the Ring of Honor banner, with only a brief AEW cameo at Double or Nothing in his hometown.

During a recent episode of the Wrestling Observer Radio, journalists Dave Meltzer and Bryan Alvarez discussed the reasons for Kingston’s ongoing absence. Meltzer said Kingston is not currently part of the promotion’s immediate creative plans. He also speculated that the veteran star has struggled with mobility since returning from a broken leg, suggesting that this physical limitation is also a key reason.

“Because they have cards. And they focus on the guys on the cards, and he’s not on the cards. Is he going to make the cards better? You want to add another match to these pay-per-views?… Have you seen Eddie Kingston wrestle since he came back? He’s not, as you know; he came back from a broken leg, he’s not mobile. Well, he’ll work hard, people will get behind him and everything, but there’s a reason,” said Alvarez. [1:00-1:37]

#4. Adam Copeland makes blockbuster debut at AEW Grand Slam Mexico; Suffers defeat

Adam Copeland made his highly anticipated debut at AEW Grand Slam Mexico in front of a passionate, sold-out crowd. Competing at the historic Arena Mexico in Mexico City, Cope joined forces with his longtime partner Christian Cage and their upcoming All In 2026 opponents, The Young Bucks, in an eight-man tag team match. The squad faced off against the Death Riders, represented by Jon Moxley, Pac, Wheeler Yuta, and Daniel Garcia. The match was a chaotic and fast-paced right from the opening bell, with brawling spreading throughout the ringside area.

Despite a spectacular performance, the Rated-R Superstar’s blockbuster debut ended in a heartbreaking defeat. In the final moments of the chaotic contest, Cope hit a spear on Moxley, but Wheeler Yuta distracted the referee. Copeland lined up for another spear, but a physical miscommunication on the ring apron between him and Matt Jackson allowed the Purveyor of Violence to roll him up with a handful of tights for the win.

#3. Adam Copeland (fka Edge) and Nick Jackson pays tribute to WWE legend Rey Mysterio

During his debut performance at Arena Mexico, Adam Copeland paid a major tribute to one of WWE’s greatest icons and legendary luchadors, Rey Mysterio. In the opening match of the August 5 episode of Dynamite: Grand Slam Mexico, Copeland pulled off the feat in front of a passionate crowd in Mexico City, eliciting a tremendous reaction.

At one point in the matchup, Copeland and Nick Jackson managed to overpower Jon Moxley, leaving him groggy and draped over the middle ropes. Realizing they had the perfect opportunity, the Rated-R Superstar and the former AEW Executive Vice President executed a synchronized double 619 on the Purveyor of Violence.

#2. Christian Cage goes below the belt on Marina Shafir

Although he now teams up with the beloved and heroic Adam Copeland, Christian Cage retains elements of his ruthless heel persona, which was on display during the Grand Slam Mexico edition of Dynamite. The reigning AEW World Tag Team champion shocked fans at Arena Mexico by crossing a line to protect his team during the chaotic eight-man tag match.

The physical altercation occurred when Death Riders member Marina Shafir, standing at ringside to support her faction, tried to interfere in the match. Shafir attacked Adam Copeland while the referee was distracted, attempting to block Jon Moxley’s spear. Before Shafir could completely ruin the match, Christian Cage intervened, pulling her out of the ring and delivering a low blow to her.

#1. Tommaso Ciampa shocked fans with a NSFW stunt on AEW Grand Slam Mexico

Tommaso Ciampa stunned the live audience and viewers worldwide with a highly controversial NSFW stunt during AEW Grand Slam Mexico. On the night, the Psycho Killer competed in a high-stakes three-way match against Andrade El Idolo and Komander to determine the number one entrant for the Casino Gauntlet match at AEW All In 2026. The physical bout featured a series of hard-hitting exchanges as all three competitors fought to secure the top spot.

The shocking incident occurred after Andrade overpowered Ciampa inside the ring. Following his signature routine, El Idolo exited the ring to take selfies with a female fan in the front row. Seizing the opportunity, Ciampa attacked Andrade from behind, delivered a boot, and threw him over the barricade. Ciampa then took the female fan’s phone, brought it into the ring, and took a picture of his private part before returning the device to her.
