    Kenny Pickett did not make a good account of himself in his first 15 minutes of play as a Carolina Panther.

    In the first quarter of Thursday’s Hall of Fame Game against the Arizona Cardinals in Canton, Ohio, the veteran quarterback amassed just 12 yards on four completions. The lowest point came on the very first drive, when he was sacked by defensive tackle Andrew Billings on the third play, causing a punt:

    It’s really wild that Kenny Pickett continues to get work in the NFL.

    Neither team ultimately scored in the first quarter, exchanging punts across the following two drives after Pickett’s sack. Eventually, the Cardinals broke the drought in the second quarter via a rushing touchdown by Corey Kiner:

    Pickett, meanwhile, finally reached opposing territory on the next drive, finding John Metchie for a 19-yard gain from the Panthers’ 45. AJ Dillon finished the sequence with a rushing touchdown to tie the game.

    Kenny Pickett’s second drive of the game would prove to be his last, as the Panthers elected to activate rookie Haynes King afterward. He immediately rewarded them with a touchdown pass to Ja’seem Reed in his first drive:

    After winning a high school title at Longview in Texas, King committed to Texas A&M to start his college career. Initially backing up Kellen Mond as a rookie, he became the starter in 2021 but played just two games (both wins) before breaking his leg.

    He played poorly in his third year as a Bulldog, going 1-4 in five starts and posting a 7-6 TD-INT ratio. Afterward, he entered the transfer portal, ultimately committing to Georgia Tech.

    In his first season with the Yellow Jackets, King won the Gasparilla Bowl against TCU. He fully broke out in 2025, winning ACC Player and Offensive Player of the Year and the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award and being named to the all-conference first team.

    Despite his successes, King went uncalled in April’s draft. He was soon signed by the Panthers as an undrafted free agent shortly after.
