The proposed acquisitions come days after Airtel told analysts that it plans to increase Nxtra’s data centre capacity to 1 gigawatt (GW) from the current 120-130 megawatts over the next few years. The company has said the expansion will be supported by upcoming capital expenditure, external funding and land acquisitions, particularly in Mumbai.

Both Rochak, incorporated on May 19, 2025 and Rovision, incorporated on May 15, 2025, are newly incorporated entities in India that propose to develop land for the construction of data centres. Both companies are yet to commence commercial operations.
Nxtra will acquire up to 85% in each company, in one or more tranches. The transactions will be made in cash at an agreed valuation, which Airtel has not disclosed citing confidentiality. The company said no government or regulatory approvals are required for the acquisitions.
The proposed transactions are aimed at expanding Nxtra’s data centre business.
The move comes as Airtel looks to build out its data centre infrastructure alongside its core telecom network. Nxtra has already raised $1 billion from external investors to fund its expansion, with the company saying it has a clear line of sight to its 1 GW target, driven by hyperscaler demand and ongoing land acquisitions in Mumbai.Airtel is also expanding its fibre network across the top 400 cities, while taking a more selective approach to fixed wireless access (FWA). The telco has said fibre offers better longevity, concurrency and lower churn, while FWA will be focused on areas where fibre connectivity is not feasible.
The company’s broader investment plans come as it looks to support its next phase of growth across data centres, connectivity and digital businesses. Airtel has said it will deploy capital expenditure where needed to drive competitive growth, even as spending on network expansion has moderated.
