Carlos Alcaraz recently pulled out of the Cincinnati Open, with the move sparking concerns amongst fans about the Spaniard’s wrist. However, the World No.2 is now reportedly looking to compete at an ATP 250 event as he gears up to defend his US Open title.
Alcaraz injured his wrist earlier this year during the beginning of the clay season. After competing in the finals of the Monte Carlo Masters against Jannik Sinner, the 23-year-old headed to his home ground at the Barcelona Open. While there, he clinched a comfortable win over Otto Virtanen in his opening round match, but ended up pulling out midway through the tournament due to his wrist.

While fans originally hoped to see Alcaraz back in action after a couple of weeks, the Spaniard was forced to sit out the entirety of the clay season, missing out on his chance to defend his Roland Garros title. He subsequently missed the grass season as well, including the Wimbledon Championships.
More recently, Carlos Alcaraz was scheduled to return to action after four months of injury layoff at the Cincinnati Open, a Masters 1000 event. While the seven-time Grand Slam champion has pulled out of Cincinnati, he is reportedly hoping to snag a wildcard for the Winston-Salem Open, an ATP 250 event scheduled to take place between August 23 and 29.
The Winston-Salem Open is celebrating its fifteenth anniversary this year, and Alcaraz’s name on the entry list will certainly add to the tournament’s celebration. The current field for the event includes the likes of World No.23 Luciano Darderi, Wimbledon semi-finalist Arthur Fery, as well as previous champions Marton Fucsovics, Lorenzo Sonego, Adrian Mannarino and more.
If Alcaraz competes in Winston-Salem, it will make his second appearance at the tournament. The Spaniard previously competed at the event in 2021, when he defeated the likes of Alexei Popyrin, Fucsovics and Marcus Giron to reach the semifinals, where he went down against Mikael Ymer in straight sets.

Despite his injury keeping him away from the tennis courts in the past few months, Carlos Alcaraz has given fans regular insights into what his life looks like when he is not competing. Most recently, the Spaniard shared snaps from his July on Instagram, simply writing,
“July ☀️.”
Prior to the setback from his wrist injury, Carlos Alcaraz had been enjoying a phenomenal 2026 season. The 23-year-old kicked off the year by clinching his maiden Australian Open title, subsequently becoming the youngest men’s singles player to complete the Career Grand Slam. He then went on to win his second title of the year at the Qatar Open, before registering a semi-finals finish at Indian Wells.
