David Njoku signed a one-year deal with the Los Angeles Chargers earlier this month, ending the Pro Bowl tight end’s nine-year stint with the Cleveland Browns.
Njoku, who had previously revealed his desire to retire as a member of the Browns, became a free agent at the end of the 2025 season. He announced in February that he won’t return to the Browns.
Thanks for the submission!
Njoku addressed his move to the Chargers in a press conference with reporters on Tuesday, saying that he doesn’t have any hard feelings for his former team after joining LA.

“It’s just business, honestly,” Njoku said about leaving the Browns.“That’s what it comes down to, just figuring out what is the best route for me individually and as a team. I guess it was best that we decided to part ways. I think it was just best for both parties.”

Former Browns TE David Njoku reveals reason behind Chargers move
David Njoku struggled with knee issues over the last two years and had to adjust to different schemes in 2025 with the Browns naming three different starting quarterbacks last season.
However, Njoku is expected to be a reliable weapon for Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert next season. The former Browns TE outlined the Chargers’ quarterback as one of the reasons for his move to LA.
“More so just finding the perfect fit that I thought would be for me personally,” Njoku said. “The best spot I could be successful in. When I visited here, I really enjoyed it.
“I met with the coaches, the owners, everything. For starters, we have a great quarterback here. Mike McDaniel is good, the head coach, (Jim Harbaugh). It was really a cumulative of things that made me decide to come here.”
Njoku, who started 11 games for the Browns last season, lost the starting role to Browns rookie Harold Fannin Jr.
