The second round of talks between the Jharkhand government and student representatives protesting over alleged irregularities in government recruitment examinations ended Saturday without a final decision on the students’ demands.
The students, however, said the government had listened to their demands and that they would wait for the issues to be taken up with Chief Minister Hemant Soren before deciding whether to withdraw their hunger strike.
An eight-member delegation of the JPSC-JSSC Abhyarthi Nyay Manch left the protest site at Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium and reached a guest house in Morabadi at around 10.30 am for the meeting. The talks began around 11.30 am.
The delegation raised the demands already put forward by the other platform, the JPSC-JSSC Reform Manch, which held talks with the government on Friday night, as well as several additional demands concerning candidates from different recruitment examinations. These included issues related to the TGT examination and other teacher recruitment examinations.
The government side was represented by Sudivya Kumar Sonu (JMM), Chamra Linda (JMM), Deepika Singh Pandey (Congress), and Sanjay Yadav (RJD).
After the meeting, Sudivya Kumar Sonu addressed the media and appealed to students and candidates to send their suggestions and views to the government through an email, jpsc.jssc.feedback@gmail.com, so that their concerns could be considered.
Student representative Chandan Rajak said the students’ demands had been heard during the meeting and would now be taken forward to the Chief Minister. He said the students would wait for a decision from the government before withdrawing their hunger strike and ending the agitation.

“We have put forward our demands. The government has listened to them and has assured us that these issues will be taken up with the Chief Minister. Only after a decision is taken will we move away from the hunger strike and the agitation,” Rajak said.
The talks came a day after the first faction of the protesting students, the JPSC-JSSC Reform Manch, held discussions with government representatives on Friday. That meeting too ended without a decision on the students’ major demands.
Meanwhile, the protest continued at Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium. Two students sitting on hunger strike were taken to Sadar Hospital after their health deteriorated, while several other protesters were also reported to be unwell.
Waiting for the implementation of their demands after the two rounds of talks, the students have maintained that the agitation will continue until a concrete decision is taken on them. Students from both the outfits are also prepared to march towards the Assembly gherao on August 10.
