Major League Soccer returns after a two-month hiatus and will feature St. Louis City and Sporting Kansas City locking horns at the Energizer Park on Thursday. With the ongoing 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America approaching its end, both clubs now turn their attention back to domestic matters.

However, the home side had turned their fortunes around by the time the World Cup break arrived, most notably beating Houston Dynamo on penalties to advance to the US Open Cup semi-finals.
St. Louis then dispatched Austin 3-0 in their final game before the break, and Damet will be keen to see his side pick up where they left off when they return to action this week as they continue their climb up the standings.
Raphael Wicky was named Sporting Kansas City head coach just weeks after Damet’s appointment, some 400km further east. The Swiss boss has fared little better than his opposite number, overseeing just one win in his first 11 league games in charge.
Despite recording back-to-back victories in May, Kansas City headed into the break on the back of a 2-1 home defeat to the New York Red Bulls.
The Wizards remain rooted to the foot of the Western Conference, having collected just 11 points from 14 matches, and will hope the extended break has done them some good when they return to action on Thursday.
