WWE SummerSlam 2026 has all the makings of a historic premium live event. Nearly every championship match features a challenger with a legitimate claim to victory, making title changes more likely than at any other point this year. From established champions defending against former world titleholders to rising stars looking to cement their legacies, the stakes could not be higher.
Although every champion walks into SummerSlam with momentum, history has shown that WWE’s biggest event of the summer is often where shocking title reigns come to an end. Some champions are dealing with internal faction drama, while others are facing opponents who simply appear destined to win.
Thanks for the submission!
That said, in this article, we look at four WWE Superstars who could be on the verge of losing their championships at SummerSlam 2026.
#4. Liv Morgan
Liv Morgan has once again proven why she belongs at the top of WWE’s women’s division. She is the reigning Women’s World Champion. At the same time, she’s leading The Judgment Day alongside Raquel Rodriguez and Roxanne Perez. However, SummerSlam may present her toughest challenge yet.
Standing across the ring will be 2026 Queen of the Ring winner IYO SKY. She earned her championship opportunity by winning one of WWE’s most prestigious tournaments. The company has consistently portrayed IYO as one of the most dangerous competitors on the roster. Thus, she enters SummerSlam with tremendous momentum behind her.
Adding to Liv’s concerns is the uncertainty surrounding The Judgment Day. Recent weeks have hinted at growing cracks within the faction, particularly with Roxanne Perez becoming more involved in Liv’s championship pursuits. One mistake or even an intentional betrayal could completely change the outcome of the match.
Even if outside interference never materializes, IYO SKY possesses the athleticism, experience, and creativity needed to capitalize on the smallest opening.
Liv Morgan has enjoyed another memorable title reign. However, the combination of IYO’s momentum and the instability surrounding The Judgment Day could finally bring it to an end.
#3. Penta
Penta has elevated the Intercontinental Championship throughout his reign by consistently delivering standout performances against a variety of opponents. His fearless style has made him one of RAW’s most reliable champions. Also, every title defense has reinforced his credibility. Unfortunately for him, Chad Gable may be peaking at exactly the right time.
Over the last several months, Gable has transformed himself into a far more ruthless competitor. Although his technical wrestling has always been among WWE’s best, his newfound aggression has made him a genuine championship threat rather than simply a fan favorite. That evolution makes SummerSlam particularly dangerous for Penta.
Unlike many challengers who rely on explosive offense, Chad Gable excels at wearing opponents down, targeting limbs, and forcing mistakes through superior mat wrestling. Those qualities could neutralize Penta’s high-risk offense and give Gable the advantage in a championship environment.
From WWE’s perspective, a title change would also inject fresh life into the IC Title picture. Penta would remain a credible upper-midcard star after a loss. Meanwhile, Chad Gable could usher in a completely different era for the title built around technical excellence and calculated dominance.
#2. Undisputed WWE Champion CM Punk
CM Punk’s return to the top of WWE has been nothing short of remarkable. After reclaiming the Undisputed WWE Championship, The Best in the World has once again become the centerpiece of SmackDown. Thus, proving that he remains one of the company’s biggest attractions. However, his SummerSlam challenger is Cody Rhodes.
Few superstars have demonstrated the resilience and determination that Rhodes has displayed over the past several years. Despite setbacks in the Undisputed WWE Championship picture, The American Nightmare has repeatedly fought his way back into contention. Thus, SummerSlam represents another opportunity to complete his redemption story.
Punk’s confidence has been one of his greatest strengths. However, it could also become his biggest weakness. Cody has shown time and again that he thrives under pressure, especially when championship gold is on the line.
Unlike many previous challengers, Cody Rhodes knows exactly what it takes to compete in high-pressure main events. Thus, if he capitalizes on a single mistake, CM Punk‘s reign as champion could end much sooner than expected.
Even if Punk ultimately retains, there is no denying that Cody represents one of the greatest threats he has faced since winning the title.
#1. Roman Reigns
Roman Reigns has rebuilt his dominance spectacularly. He has re-established himself as the leader of The Bloodline while carrying the World Heavyweight Championship into another blockbuster SummerSlam main event.
However, this time, he faces perhaps the one opponent who knows him better than anyone else: Seth Rollins.
The two former Shield brothers have spent more than a decade crossing paths. Also, Rollins has repeatedly proven that he understands Roman’s strengths and weaknesses better than almost anyone in WWE. Their history alone makes this one of the most unpredictable championship matches on the SummerSlam card.
Adding to the intrigue is Seth Rollins’ own motivation. The Visionary has made no secret of his desire to reclaim world championship gold. Thus, defeating Roman Reigns at The Biggest Party of the Summer would instantly re-establish him as the face of Monday Night RAW.
Thus, if any reigning champion has the most to lose at SummerSlam 2026, the OTC sits firmly at the top of the list.
