Ellie Goulding has spoken candidly about a fake tweet about her that has been making the rounds on social media for nearly four years. On October 10, 2022, X account @FakeShowbizNews posted a fake tweet about her opining on the extended construction time of the Sydney Opera House.

    The tweet read:

“Ellie Goulding says she can’t believe it took 14 years to build the Sydney Opera House. “It’s nice but it shouldn’t have taken that long,” she said”

For the unversed, the construction of Sydney’s iconic Opera House took 14 years and cost a whopping A$102 million. However, the original plan was to complete the construction by January 1963 within a budget of just A$7 million. Several reasons contributed to the whopping 1,357% increase in budget and the incessant delay in completion time.

One of the major reasons was that construction started much before the final design was finalized by designer Jorn Utzon, Therefore, several questions about the building’s structural integrity and framework remained unanswered.

Secondly, the shell roof structures conceptualized by Utzon were seemingly impossible to build with the technology of the 1950s. The engineering and design team rejected at least 12 different options between 1957 and 1963. In 1963, the concrete base was finally completed. However, several design and structural flaws because of cost-cutting eventually led to the same being rebuilt.

Finally, political and internal turmoils severely delayed the construction process. In 1966, Utzon was forced to resign under political pressure and a completely new team had to finish the remaining construction.

When the Sydney Opera House was formally inaugurated by Queen Elizabeth II on October 20, 1973, over 14 years had passed from the day construction first began.

Ellie Goulding recently validated her fake tweet about the Sydney Opera House in a BBC Radio 1 interview, saying:

“Lowkey agree with that, like it’s a beautiful building but 14 years is just taking the mick.”

@FakeShowbizNews is known for circulating hilarious fake tweets in the name of Ellie Goulding and other celebrities. However, the account has “clearly labelled” itself a “parody account.”

In a viral fake tweet posted on October 2, 2019, Goulding slams incessant security checks at the airport. It reads:

“Goulding says it’s ridiculous she still has to go through security at airports. “Why would I be a terrorist?” she said”

In another (posted on November 20, 2020), the songstress claims she didn’t know bees make the “buzz” sound by flapping their wings. According to the fake tweet, the songstress always thought they were “saying buzz” with their mouths.

During the COVID pandemic, one Goulding fake tweet circulated online where the songstress suggests that grounded passenger planes could be used to shelter the homeless. Additionally, “the best behaved ones could go in business class.”

Ellie Goulding expresses disbelief that planes regularly fly from Copenhagen to Tokyo. “What sort of crazy scenario would make you need to be in Copenhagen one day and then in Tokyo the next?” she said
