Taylor Swift has reportedly filed for a permit to close streets around Madison Square Garden. This has led to speculation that she would be marrying Travis Kelce at the venue on July 3.
Swift and Kelce announced their engagement in August last year, and there have been a lot of rumors about their upcoming wedding since. It was earlier reported that they will get married in June in Rhode Island. However, The New York Times has now hinted that it could be on July 3 at Madison Square Garden.
According to the outlet, the authorities have obtained a request for a permit to close the streets around the venue from July 2 to midday July 4. A source has reportedly said that a few Kansas City Chiefs members have booked rooms at the Marriott Marquis in Times Square for around July 3. For the unversed, Travis Kelce is the tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs.
Another source reportedly told NYT:
“Madison Square Garden is planning to host the wedding festivities on July 3”
Madison Square Garden is generally known for hosting sports and entertainment events. However, it has also hosted weddings previously, including Sly Stone’s to Kathy Silva in 1974.
MSG has multiple different arenas for different sports and events, and their capacities range from 18,000 to 22,000. In terms of halls and concerts, it can accommodate over 20,000 people.
The venue would be great for Taylor Swift, as it would provide privacy and security with windowless halls and discreet entries for high-profile guests. Moreover, unlike an open-air venue, this could allow them to control pictures as well.
The New York Times reports that the authorities are working hard to ensure a smooth process. While this could potentially be a ruse, they are also preparing for the celebrations on July 4 and the 250th birthday of the USA.
Jessica Tisch demands funding for police department amidst rumors of Taylor Swift’s wedding at MSG on July 3

With the upcoming July 4 celebrations and the ongoing FIFA World Cup, the New York Police Department is already working on two major events. Moreover, Taylor Swift’s reported wedding on July 3 could stretch them further.
In a recent meeting, police commissioner Jessica Tisch urged more overtime funding for the police officials for this phase. She also hinted at Taylor Swift’s wedding and other events and said:
“Any one of those on their own would be a big deal in New York City. All of them taken together are unprecedented and are going to place unusual, and I would say historic, demands on the New York City Police Department.”
Meanwhile, while promoting the FIFA World Cup, New York City mayor Zohran Mamdani had said:
“It feels like a city that is coming to life.”
He added that he was “excited to welcome the world here”, with some major events planned. Notably, earlier this month, Mamdani was also asked if he would attend Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s wedding. He denied it and wished “them a lovely wedding.”
