Adam Copeland shocked the world when he joined AEW following his WWE exit. He has now explained the reason behind his decision.

Adam Copeland is one of the most well-known professional wrestlers in the world. He wrestled for the WWE for several years, where he made a name for himself as one of the top heels in the company. However, after returning from his first retirement, the Rated R Superstar wasn’t able to reach the same level of success. He shocked the world when he joined AEW a few years ago. This was surprising since many people believed that he was a WWE lifer.

During a recent interview with Clutch Points, the former WWE star revealed that three of his closest industry friends worked in AEW and were enjoying themselves, which influenced his decision to sign with Tony Khan’s company.

“My three best friends in the industry work there, and they all say they’re having an absolute blast — sign me up! It was a no-brainer.”

He further added that he worked with everyone he wanted to in the sports entertainment juggernaut. He also expressed interest in working with Samoa Joe.

“I’d kind of worked everyone there was to work in WWE…Obviously, there are still some [I didn’t work with], but I looked at AEW and the most glaring one I’d never wrestled [was] Samoa Joe. That’s crazy.” [H/T Clutch Points]

Adam Copeland is open to a backstage role in AEW after retirement

Adam Copeland is one of the most experienced wrestlers on the AEW roster. His vast experience could be beneficial to the young talent in the Jacksonville-based promotion.

During an interview with Westwood One Sports, Copeland was asked about taking up a backstage role in AEW after his retirement. He said that it depends on Tony Khan. However, he would love to be involved in the creative side of the business while pursuing an acting career.

“That’s up to Tony and what he may need. That’s stuff that I don’t know. Where would you need me? Then I think we’d just discuss it at that time and go ‘Okay, well yeah, that sounds like fun’ or ‘I just want to sit on my deck or go jet skiing or kayaking or something.’ I don’t know. But I’m a creative person and I know that no matter what, I’ll need to scratch that creative itch. Whether that’s just purely acting or maybe it’s helping with creative in AEW and still continuing in acting. I don’t know, but I do know in terms of the workplace, I love going there. It wouldn’t be like twisting my arm to keep me around.” [H/T- @Fightful on X]
