Hollywood actor Will Ferrell has revealed Lionel Messi’s one strict rule that must be followed during commercial shoots for him to stay on set. Ferrell recently claimed that Messi refuses to extend his time on set beyond 30 minutes and will leave if all the shots aren’t completed in time.
Lionel Messi has established himself as arguably the greatest player of all time, having dominated the sport for over two decades. As a result, the 39-year-old frequently shoots commercials and global campaigns for major brands, including Adidas, Pepsi, Michelob ULTRA, Louis Vuitton, and Apple.

Messi recently appeared in a commercial alongside Tom Holland to promote Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Additionally, he participated in the No Lay’s No Game campaign alongside David Beckham, Thierry Henry, and actor Steve Carell.
In the commercial, Lionel Messi is seen promoting the Lay’s brand at a viewing party at Beckham’s house. However, Ferrell, who spoke with Carell after their shoot, appeared on the Don Patrick Show and said (via SPORTbible):
“I talked to Steve Carell, who has met Messi. was in the domestic campaign for Lay’s potato chips; Steve was in the foreign campaign. Apparently Messi was in, and Messi has a rule: when he hits the set, you got 30 minutes with Messi, and that’s it. So there was a frenzy of activity to hurry up and get all the shots with Messi; otherwise, he’s out. He’s vamos.”
Per Forbes, Lionel Messi makes around $70 million annually from commercial shoots, sponsorships, and brand endorsements. His annual income is currently estimated to be around $140 million.

Major League Soccer (MLS) have confirmed that Inter Miami superstar Lionel Messi will not feature in the 2026 All-Star clash between the MLS and Liga MX. The two sides are set to lock horns at the Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte later today (Wednesday, July 29).
After helping Argentina reach the 2026 FIFA World Cup final, both Messi and Rodrigo De Paul have been granted additional time to rest. The MLS announced (via Bolavip):
“Prior to the start of the 2026 season, Major League Soccer and the MLS Players Association agreed that upon a player’s exit from the World Cup competition, clubs would have individual conversations with each player to determine the appropriate rest and return to training and competition timeline.”
“Consistent with that agreement, Rodrigo De Paul and Lionel Messi will be excused from participating in the 2026 MLS All-Star Game.”
While Messi’s absence will be a big blow for the MLS side, the likes of Thomas Müller and Son Heung-min are expected to feature after being spotted in team training this week.
