Is Deshaun Watson at risk of losing his previously guaranteed QB1 spot at the Cleveland Browns? According to fans, his latest performance says so.

During Wednesday’s practice, the three-time Pro Bowler was spotted throwing interceptions on consecutive drives. The first was by the recently extended Denzel Ward, and the second by team newcomer Damarri Mathis.

Deshaun Watson was just picked off on back-to-back throws, first by Denzel Ward and then by new CB Damarri Mathis.

Below is the video of Ward’s interception:

    Meanwhile, here is Mathis’:

Much mockery ensued as soon as fans learned of it:

@DanielOyefusi @gabbgoudy Trade Deshaun please. He sucks. Would rather have Baker @bakermayfield

@DanielOyefusi I like that, Deshaun showing he’s washed early and often. Let’s go 2. It’s time to be Legendary and shine thru the shade

@DanielOyefusi It’s so fucking over for him dude ain’t no way he gets the job , I’d genuinely rather have Gabriel be the backup I don’t care

@DanielOyefusi Are we surprised 😂 Deshaun hasn’t been good in 6 years

@DanielOyefusi He might need to start visiting masseuse again. The drop off is crazy. It seems the old Deshaun is dead.

@DanielOyefusi They about to discuss this for two hours tomorrow 😂

These blunders will certainly not help Watson’s case to be the Browns’ starter in 2026, as head coach Todd Monken had said during media availability:

“Ultimately, I’m not gonna decide who the starter is. They decide by their play. I don’t havbe any pre-conceived notions of how they played in the past or how they’re gonna play. I only can, with my eyes, judge.”

Insider gets blunt over Deshaun Watson’s prospect of being Browns’ QB1

Over the past few months, Deshaun Watson has vacillated between being a surefire pick to start for the Browns and engaging in a very close battle with Shedeur Sanders.

The main pro for him is experience and name value, as he has proven capable of leading the team to wins when healthy. Said health, however, is also a knock against him, as he has suffered three injuries, two to the same part, which have affected his performance. He is also entering the final year of the $230-million contract that he signed in 2022 upon being traded from the Houston Texans.

With that in mind, The Athletic’s Zac “Akron” Jackson had this to say about Watson’s starter prospects on 92.3 The Fan’s “The Ken Carman Show with Anthony Lima”:

“The problem is, when you watch Watson, you can’t get past what it was because that’s what it looks like again. There’s no point in putting him out there for a team that’s trying to move forward. … I will not be surprised if this goes all the way through the 2nd preseason game.”

The Browns’ first preseason game is at the Chicago Bears on August 15. Kickoff is at 1 p.m. ET.
