Former India player Aakash Chopra has noted that MS Dhoni has taught people the art of letting go. He pointed out that the former India captain retired from Tests when he was about to reach 100 games and 5,000 runs in the longest format.
Dhoni retired from Tests after the third game of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2014-15. He amassed 4,876 runs at an average of 38.09 in 90 Tests.
In a video shared on his YouTube channel, ‘Aakash Chopra,’ the former India batter noted that Dhoni gave everyone the life lesson of not holding onto things.
“If you have to learn anything, there cannot be a better example than Dhoni. The easiest thing in life is to hold on to something you get and not let it go. That’s what we all do. The most difficult thing is to let go. It becomes even more difficult to let go if you are a superstar,” Chopra said.
“However, he let it go easily. He was the Test captain. No one was saying anything to him, but in the middle of the series, he said, ‘I am done.’ He had played 90 Test matches. He had reached very close to 5,000 runs. Neither the thought of 100 Tests nor scoring 5,000 Test runs came to his mind,” he added.
Aakash Chopra pointed out that MS Dhoni also announced his international retirement through a social media post. He questioned whether anyone does like that these days, highlighting that everyone wants to milk everything.
“Only talk used to happen before that” – Aakash Chopra on the life lesson from Rohit Sharma
In the same video, Aakash Chopra noted that Rohit Sharma has given everyone the life lesson of following one’s words and leading by example.
“Don’t do as I say, do as I do. It’s said that leaders lead by example. They lead from the front, and we get to learn that from Rohit Sharma. He has taught that whatever he wants his team to do, he would do that himself first. I will put the team before me, and then, automatically, the entire team is going to follow the path,” the former India opener said.
“He did that in white-ball cricket. He said it’s not about Rohit Sharma anymore. It’s about where I want to take Indian cricket. He said he would walk the talk. Only talk used to happen before that. He said he would be the brand ambassador,” he added.
Rohit Sharma has amassed 11,577 runs at a strike rate of 92.74 in 274 ODI innings. He scored 4,231 runs at a strike rate of 140.89 in 151 T20I innings.
