The San Francisco Giants’ losing streak extended to four games after a 3-2 loss against the Kansas City Royals on Tuesday. The Giants are 42-59 for the season after the loss.

However, MLB insider Joel Sherman dismissed the rumors on “The Show” podcast with Jon Heyman.

“I keep hearing people try to associate Rafael Devers with the Yankees,” Sherman said (Timestamp 14:00 onwards). “I would say that Rafael Devers has the most underwater contract in the sport, perhaps. I think people forget what his behavior was in a couple of different places now.
“I told somebody yesterday that’s like being hungry and buying a restaurant. Like, if you have an itch right now, you scratch it with a one- or two-year guy; you don’t bring in Devers.”
Devers, who has also played as a designated hitter this season, is on pace for 33 home runs and 41 doubles. Devers was traded to the Giants last year after signing a 10-year, $313.5 million contract extension with the Boston Red Sox.

Although the Yankees are expected to add more firepower at the trade deadline amid three-time MVP Aaron Judge’s uncertain return timeline, a trade for Rafael Devers seems unlikely, as he is owed $211 million from 2027 to 2033.
The Giants could keep hold of Devers, who hit his 20th home run of the season against the Seattle Mariners over the weekend. The veteran All-Star slugger is only the fourth MLB player to hit 20+ home runs in eight consecutive seasons (barring the pandemic-shortened 2020 season).
San Francisco could continue with Devers and rookie infielder Bryce Eldridge in tandem as its designated hitter and first baseman if the veteran slugger remains with the NL East team beyond the trade deadline.
