Matt Cardona is in town for Atlantic City, where RAW is taking place. However, he is a SmackDown star, thus the wonder what his presence means. However, he’s more concerned about finding out that the site of his most infamous deathmatch has undergone a change into a mini-golf course.

Cardona shared his disbelief on X, stating how his career-changing venue, the Carousel Room at the Showboat Hotel, does not exist now with a ring in it. In July 2021, the room hosted the historic GCW Homecoming, where Cardona defeated Nick Gage in a famously bloody, glass-shattering deathmatch to capture the GCW World Championship. That can be seen in the image he shared, too. (You can see the post here.)

“Back in Atlantic City. I can’t believe the venue that held my career changing deathmatch is now a mini golf course. @GCWrestling_ @wwe” wrote Matt Cardona.

The ‘Indy God‘ slowly took off from there and has several indie triumphs over the years. Fast forward to today, where Cardona shared a selfie of himself standing under that exact ceiling, except the ring and canvas have been replaced by artificial putting greens.

Matt Cardona opens up about independent wrestling time

WWE provides the working environment with professionalism like no other. However, the independent wrestling scene is different.

Matt Cardona, who is a huge example of a massive WWE name and a greater indie wrestler, has much to say about it. He pointed out the differences while speaking on The Major Wrestling Figure podcast.

Matt admitted the indie circuit lacked amenities but claimed to miss the crowd and the atmosphere in those shows. That said, he appreciates the hot shower and the catering he gets in WWE now.

“Listen, that Ukranian Cultural Center. No locker room. Literally an alley doing push-ups inches away from where I just peed. But that was indies. That was GCW, and I loved it and embraced it. Do I miss it? Do I miss the atmosphere of the crowd? 100%. Do I miss the shows? 100%. Do I miss not getting to shower after a match? No. Do I miss peeing outside? No. I don’t miss any of that. I love being in WWE. Hot shower, catering, water bottles, stuff like that,” said Cardona.
