The PV5, Kia’s electric van, comes in many “top hats” for everyday and business use. At the Busan International Mobility Show, Kia introduced three new models, including a 7-seater.
Kia PV5 Passenger 7-seater, Prime, and Cargo High Roof
After it went on sale in Europe, the UK, and South Korea last year, the PV5 quickly earned praise from journalists and buyers for its real-world efficiency, flexible interior, and modern technology.
It was unanimously chosen as the 2026 International Van of the Year, becoming the first Korean vehicle to win the award.
The PV5 is available in three main body types: Passenger, Cargo, and Chassis cab body types, but that’s just the start.
Kia’s electric van is based on Hyundai’s E-GMP.S architecture, which unlocks “limitless possibilities” for new variants. The platform uses modular brackets and a flexible body system to simplify development and enable new forms.
The system features an Integrated Modular Architecture (IMA) consisting of modules, or “building blocks” that include core components such as the battery, motor, and underbody structures.
While the front cabin and first-row seating are standardized across all PV5 variants, the rear-end modules, quarter glass, and roof height can be swapped out like puzzle pieces. The flexibility enables up to 16 PV5 variants.
At the Busan Mobility Show on Friday, Kia unveiled three new variants: the PV5 Passenger 7-seater (2-2-3), Passenger Prime, and Cargo High Roof.
Several fun new collaboration models were also on display, including an ice cream truck, an AI patrol car, a mobile bank, a school bus, and more.
The 7-seater model introduces a new 2-2-3 seating layout with the second-row seats sitting on one side to make it easier for passengers to get in and out.
Kia said the new 7-seater variant is designed for larger families and can be used as a rental car or shuttle bus.
Earlier this month, Kia launched the PV5 Passenger 7-seater in the UK. According to Kia, the 7-seater has “best-in-class” legroom of up to 1,732 mm, headroom (up to 1,075 mm), and shoulder room (up to 1,732 mm).
The PV5 Passenger Prime is an upscale, higher-end variant designed for personal or business use, such as ride-hailing.
It includes added premium interior features such as an independent rear seat, exclusive exterior colors, black skid plates, alloy wheels, and an emblem.
The PV5 Cargo High Roof is 295 mm taller than the standard model, with a new interior layout that makes it easier to move between the driver’s seat and the rear.
Kia plans to continue expanding the PV5 lineup with a new 5-seater (1-1-2) for taxis, a truck “exclusively for small business owners,” and “models specialized for outdoor and leisure activities,” the company said.
The PV5 is the first model from Kia’s Platform Beyond Vehicle (PBV) business. In Europe, the PV5 Passenger is available with two battery packs: 51.5 kWh and 71.2 kWh. The former offers a WLTP range of up to 183 miles, while the latter is rated with 256 miles.
While it’s offered with the same battery packs, the PV5 Cargo offers WLTP ranges of 184 miles (51.5 kWh) and 258 miles (71.2 kWh), respectively.
By 2030, Kia plans to offer three PBVs, including larger PV7 and PV9 models. Ahead of its debut in 2027, Kia’s larger electric van was recently spotted in public for the first time (watch the video here).
