Former AEW star Jade Cargill is set to compete at Clash in Italy this Sunday, where she will attempt to regain her WWE Women’s Championship. Ahead of the upcoming PLE, the 33-year-old appeared in an interview, where she referenced her time in the Tony Khan-led promotion.
This past April on Night 2 of WrestleMania 42, Jade Cargill was unseated by Rhea Ripley as the WWE Women’s Champion after a hard-fought battle. The powerhouse is currently not only feuding with The Eradicator, but also with team of Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss, defeating the babyface trio alongside B-Fab and Michin at SNME 44. She defeated Alexa in singles competition this week on Friday Night Smackdown, and attacked the former Wicked Witch viciously post-match to send a message to the latter’s allies.
Jade will be challenging Ripley for the WWE Women’s Title at Clash in Italy this coming Sunday. Ahead of the PLE, Cargill appeared in an interview on The Rich Eisen Show, where she revealed that wrestling was not always her professional aspiration. Regardless, her career in the squared circle began with a massive televised match on AEW Dynamite: The Crossroads (on March 3, 2021), where she and sports legend Shaquille O’Neal defeated Cody Rhodes and Red Velvet in a mixed tag team bout.
Cargill argued that no matter how audiences viewed her, she was always presented as a top act, starting from her AEW tenure itself, where she had an undefeated singles streak and a 508-day reign as TBS Champion.
“You gotta think about it, this is not something I always wanted to do. That’s something that people could hate on and being that my first match ever was on live TV with Shaquille O’Neil, against our champion Cody Rhodes. Who gets that unless you’re legacy? No one. I was thrown on TV, people can say what they want, but I continue to tread, swim, I’ve been champion. And that’s five years in the game. I’ve always been on [the] main roster.”
Jade continued:
“Experiment or not, it’s working. So I can see how people can dislike that, although I don’t take advantage of that. I work really really hard from where I’m at, but people are going to hate regardless.” [H/T- @WrestleTalk_TV]
What was Jade Cargill’s last match in AEW?
The last time Jade Cargill was seen in action inside an All Elite Wrestling ring was on the September 15, 2023 edition of AEW Rampage. The main event of the show, which aired from Cincinnati’s Heritage Bank Center, witnessed Kris Statlander successfully defending her TBS Championship against Cargill, a belt she had captured from the latter months prior at Double or Nothing 2023.
Jade signed with WWE following on the heels of her All Elite Wrestling exit in late September, 2023.
