The Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIMA) on August 22 unveiled India Pharma Archives, a digital platform that takes viewers through the 125-year-long history of Indian pharma. The platform was launched by India’s Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, Anupriya Patel, at the IIMA Healthcare Summit in Ahmedabad. The event was also attended by Punya Salila Srivastava, Secretary, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, and Shri Manoj Joshi, Secretary, Department of Pharmaceuticals, along with the presence of industry specialists and academicians.

India Pharma Archives, developed by IIM Ahmedabad, is the first living digital platform capturing the country’s 125-year pharmaceutical journey. The platform is publicly accessible on its official website – indiapharmaarchives.com. The archives have been introduced by IIMA in support of the Indian Pharmaceutical Alliance (IPA), a representation of 23 Indian research-driven pharmaceutical companies.

As per the institute, the archive documents the trajectory of Indian pharma from 1901 to 2025, containing around 1,000 documents and resources. The archive brings forward oral histories with more than 250+ video stories, anecdotes, rare films and historical footage. It also comprises more than 30 industry leaders and dedicated company histories. IIMA, in collaboration with IPA, has designed the platform to serve as a knowledge door for researchers, students, policymakers, historians, and budding industry leaders.

The President of IPA and managing director of Zydus Lifesciences, Sharvil Patel, described the Indian pharmaceutical industry as a remarkable story of science, entrepreneurship and global impact. As per him, the India Pharma Archives would continue to serve as a digital platform for new ideas, collaborations, and solutions that also cater to the health challenges of tomorrow’s world.

IPA members currently account for more than 85% of private-sector pharmaceutical and investment activity in the country. They also contribute over 80% of India’s pharmaceutical exports and represent more than 64% of the domestic pharmaceutical market.
