England captain Harry Kane has confirmed that he played golf with United States President Donald Trump. He recalled meeting him 18 months ago in Palm Beach, and praised him for how well he played.
Speaking to the media, Kane said that it was a ‘surreal experience’ to play golf with Trump. He wishes to be as good at golf as the 80-year-old when he reaches that age.
Thanks for the submission!
“I played all right. We played about 18 months ago. He invited me to play when I was down in Palm Beach. When the President invites you somewhere… it was a pretty surreal experience just to meet him and obviously play golf with him. His golf is pretty good. I hope I can play golf as good as him when I am his age, that’s for sure. So, a unique experience, I was just grateful that he invited me down to play with him.” (via NY Times)
The comments came after Donald Trump revealed their golf outing to the media earlier this month. He said that the England captain impressed him in the FIFA World Cup clash against Mexico, and added that he was a great golfer too.
“I think Kane is a great player. I played golf with him and I like him a lot. He’s a good golfer. He’s really great.”
Harry Kane and Donald Trump could meet once again if England make it to the FIFA World Cup final. The United States president is set to be handing the trophy to the winner next weekend.
Thomas Tuchel joked about Harry Kane talking to Donald Trump
England coach Thomas Tuchel joked about Harry Kane contacting Donald Trump to overturn Jarell Quansah’s red card. He claimed that it was a harsh decision and said:
“To be clear, it was not a red card. VAR got involved. The decision is made. Who overturns this decision and when and on what grounds? It’s strange for me. We want consistency.”
“I think it is not a yellow card, Declan Rice. Does France get the yellow card back for Michael Olise, which was not a yellow card? Where does this start and where does this end? Do we appeal (Jarell Quansah red)? Should Harry Kane ask President Donald Trump? Maybe!”
Jarell Quansah did not see his red card suspended; instead, FIFA added another match to his ban, citing Article 14. He was deemed to have put the opponents’ safety in danger with the sliding tackle.
