A popular ex-WWE Superstar has just taken to social media and has suddenly made some subtle hints about possibly returning to AEW. This comes with just just a few hours before the company’s Redemption event.

Buddy Matthews has been out of action for over a year due to injury. His last match was at AEW Grand Slam: Australia on February 2025. He sustained an ankle injury right before his match with Kazuchika Okada, but push through with the match nonetheless. But this injury was worse than expected, and he would go through several setbacks in his recovery.

An hour ago, Buddy Matthews took to Instagram and posted another cryptic message ahead of tonight’s pay-per-view in Montreal. His quote focused on his imminent comeback, but he interestingly used the word “redemption”. A few weeks ago, it was reported that he was now medically cleared, so a return tonight is not off the cards.

“They left me in the darkness, convinced I’d never find my way. Redemption was waiting where they stopped looking.” Buddy wrote.

The landscape of AEW has changed completely since Buddy Matthews’ last appearance. Last time around he was still one-half of the Hounds of Hell with Brody King right after Malakai Black’s departure from the company.

But it looks like he isn’t focused on any of that as yesterday he took to his Instagram Stories and posted another cryptic quote about not focusing on stuff that he could not control.

“If it’s out of my hands, it deserves less space in my mind.”

Redemption is set to be the final major stop before the company heads on the road to All In: Wembley next month. The show is set to feature a stacked match card with most of the championship belts on the line. It will be interesting to see whether there will be any major surprises and title changes that will once more change the landscape of AEW.

Buddy Matthews’ imminent return could be something to keep an eye out for, as his hints on social media could be more than just words.
