The midsize electric pickup was spotted testing in Arizona this time as Ford prepares to take the wraps off.

With the all-electric F-150 Lightning dead and gone, Ford is preparing to introduce its next EV pickup.

As the first vehicle based on its new Universal EV Platform (UEV), Ford’s upcoming model is smaller, more efficient, and considerably cheaper, with prices starting at around $30,000.

We got our first look at the midsize four-door pickup earlier this month as Ford began testing it in public.

The disguised prototype, spotted in Long Beach by The Autopian, appeared even smaller than expected, driving in between a Ford Ranger-based Mazda B-Series and an F-150 pickup. It also sat much closer to the ground, with a design similar to Ford’s iconic Ranchero.

With the new EV pickup set to launch in 2027, Ford is ramping up testing. Another camouflaged prototype was recently captured in Arizona during hot weather testing.

The new image from KindelAuto offers a good side view of the midsize pickup. You can clearly see this is nothing like the F-150 Lightning. If anything, it looks more like the Maverick.

Although it looks tiny, The Autopian pointed out that the “second row looks fairly large” in person. Ford claims it will offer more interior passenger space than a Toyota RAV4.

The midsize pickup is set to launch in 2027 as the first vehicle based on Ford’s UEV platform, which the company promises will deliver improvements across the board.

Ford is taking a radically different approach to cut costs and improve efficiency, including new manufacturing practices like megacasting and the use of prismatic LFP batteries.

Ford’s Advanced EV Aerodynamics senior manager, Saleem Merkt, said earlier this year that the new pickup’s aerodynamic efficiency is “more than 15% better than any other pickup truck on the market today and will ultimately result in longer range and lower cost for our customers.”

The midsize pickup will be built at Ford’s Louisville Assembly plant. Ford plans to launch it in 2027, with first customer deliveries shortly after.

After the prototype was spotted in Long Beach, a reader noticed a hidden QR code in the camouflage that takes you to a secret website. The website (check it out here) has a few videos posted that offer a sneak peek at the new model and more.
