Olivia Rodrigo’s new album, called you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love, received an 8.3 out of 10 rating from Pitchfork following its release on June 12, 2026. The project, which is Rodrigo’s third studio album, follows her 2023 LP GUTS and her 2021 debut album SOUR. The 13-track album was introduced by the lead single, Drop Dead, in April 2026, followed by two other singles, The Cure and Stupid Song.
Pitchfork’s review called the album a “heartbreaking account of an intense romance and its demise,” and described Olivia Rodrigo’s evolution as a songwriter as a “sight to behold.”
“Over the course of her new album, Rodrigo uses her talent for cataloging the various indignities of romance to draw up a list of physical symptoms, from upset stomach to low appetite to total mental dissociation. The album is called you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love, but you could substitute “sick” for “sad” and it would still make sense,” the review added.
Pitchfork’s review of you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love divided the internet, with one user comparing it to her pop peers Taylor Swift and Sabrina Carpenter. For context, Pitchfork rated Taylor Swift’s 2025 album, The Life of a Showgirl, 5.9 out of 10. Meanwhile, Sabrina Carpenter’s 2025 album, Man’s Best Friend, received a 7.9 out of 10 rating.
“Ended Taylor and Sabrina.”
Several netizens agreed with Pitchfork, calling you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love “album of the year.”
However, others claimed the album was repetitive and did not deserve the high score, while some wondered how Pitchfork was able to publish the review mere hours after the album’s release.
Olivia Rodrigo described her new album as “concepty”
During a March interview with British Vogue, Olivia Rodrigo revealed that she was working on her third studio album, referred to as OR3 at the time. The singer also revealed that the album would contain “sad love songs,” adding, “I realised all my favourite romantic love songs were beautiful because they had a tinge of fear or yearning in them.”
In April 2026, Olivia Rodrigo announced her new album, you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love, and subsequently released the lead single Drop Dead. On May 26, the singer unveiled the album’s tracklist, which revealed that the project was split into two.
Side A, titled “Girl So in Love,” featured seven songs, while Side B, titled “You Seem Pretty Sad,” featured six songs. Here is the tracklist for Rodrigo‘s new album:
Girl So in Love
- Drop Dead
- Stupid Song
- Honeybee
- Maggots for Brains
- U + Me = <3
- My Way
- Purple
You Seem Pretty Sad

On June 12, Olivia Rodrigo appeared for an interview with Hits Radio, where she discussed the new album and its two sides. She called the album “concepty,” adding that Side A would be happier and everything “sort of starts to unravel” in Side B.
“It sort of turned out to be like sort of like a concepty album, which I didn’t initially think it was going to be. It really tells a story. And so the first side of the album, Side A is a little happier and then the B Side, it sort of starts to unravel, as I say…(There’s) really something for everyone on the album. I think anyone in any stage of a relationship can find a song that hopefully speaks to their situation,” she said.
In other news, Olivia Rodrigo is set to embark on “The Unraveled Tour,” kicking off at the PeoplesBank Arena + in Hartford, Connecticut, on September 25. The 65-date tour will see the singer perform across North America and Europe in 2026 and 2027.
