Soon, Diablo 4 players will be able to take part in a Warlock Free Trial, so even if you don’t have Lord of Hatred, you can at least give the class a spin to see if it’s for you. With that in mind, if you’re curious about what the restrictions are, there is one, unfortunately. You can’t level all the way to level cap (70), so there’s no point talking about endgame builds in this guide, just leveling builds.
The Diablo 4 Warlock Free Trial is a great way to see if purchasing Lord of Hatred is for you, though. The Warlock is a varied, powerful class with lots of build options. Below we’ll go over a few leveling options you can consider as you begin your D4 Warlock trial on June 30, 2026.
How long is the Diablo 4 Warlock Free Trial?
For those jumping into the Diablo 4 Warlock Free Trial, it will be available between June 30, 2026 until July 7, 2026 at 10 am PT. Thankfully, it’s available on all the major platforms that have D4: PC, Xbox and PlayStation. Though we’ve heard hints of a Switch 2 release, it won’t be out in time for this, so sadly, it’s just not an option.
Sadly, you can’t hit level 70 during this Free Trial, unless you purchase Lord of Hatred. Otherwise, you have a level cap of 25, which means we’re going to focus on a few leveling builds you could consider focusing on below.
What are the best builds to try as a Warlock during the Diablo 4 Free Trial?
1) Minion Warlock
Minion Warlock is almost always going to be a satisfying way to play during Diablo 4’s Warlock Free Trial. There are so many minion options to choose from, and while it is annoying to manage two resources to play a Minion Lock, I still think it’s going to be fun. If I can’t play Apocalypse, this is going to be my backup in most cases.
You’re going to be using Command Fallen, Bombardment, Rampage, and Fiend of Abbadon primarily, and Sigil of Summons to crank out as much damage as possible. Nether Step is going to be the movement ability of choice as you dart around, inflicting pain on anything you can.

2) Dread Claws Warlock
Dread Claws is probably one of the most popular ways to play Diablo 4 as a Warlock, and it even received a minor buff in the Season 14 patch notes. If you want to dump tons of AOE around, shred bosses to pieces, and for it to feel good at the same time, this is where you’ll want to invest your time. It’s not fast, it’s not tanky, and it requires a little effort, but it’s worth it.
In addition to using Laalish as your Soul Shard of choice, you also run a suite of Abyss skills. However, with the level cap of 25, you won’t be breaking past Hellion Sting as your way to generate resources. Between that, you’ll use Dread Claws for AoE, Rampage as one of your demons, and Metamorphosis as your Ultimate.

3) Blazing Scream Warlock
Blazing Scream Warlock is a build I experimented with before I found myself quickly falling in love with Apocalypse Warlock in Diablo 4. It’s another rather squishy build and is always hungry for resources, but it’s fun, it’s easy, and does really satisfying damage. This version of Blazing Scream goes with the Skull Splitter variant, that shoots smaller skulls that seek out and harm enemies, and that’s always a good time.
You also run Command Fallen for damage, and the Chain Aura version of Dark Prison for constant fire damage. It’s also a build where you use Rampage as a movement ability, and Metamorphosis’ Destructive Demon variant to increase your Hellfire damage. You also use Sigil of Chaos to help build Volatility, which is key to dealing more damage.
