Cristiano Ronaldo has sent a heartwarming message to Lionel Messi after the Inter Miami captain’s father passed away. He commented on the Argentine’s Instagram post on Wednesday, August 12.
Taking to Instagram, Ronaldo sent a message of strength to Messi, who posted a touching message in honour of his father.
Thanks for the submission!
The Al-Nassr captain commented and said:
“A huge hug to you and yours in these tough times, Leo. Much strength.”
Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi have had a stunning rivalry on the pitch, but have not been friends outside of it. The Portugal captain admitted in 2019, saying that he would like to have dinner with his Argentine counterpart.
He stated that the duo have pushed each other to do well and said:
“We shared the stage 15 years, me and him. I don’t know if it’s ever happened in football, the same two guys, in the same stage, all the time. So … it’s not easy. Of course, we have good relationship. We not have dinner together yet, but I hope in the future. Of course I miss playing in Spain. We have that battle. He push me and I push him as well.”
Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi stated in 2023 that their rivalry was done as they moved away from European football. The Argentina superstar had joined Inter Miami, while the Portuguese forward was at Al-Nassr.
Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi would not be great teammates, says pundit
Former Manchester United star Mikael Silvestre spoke earlier this summer about Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, saying they would not be great teammates. He claimed that their egos would not let one take charge over the other and said:
“I think it would make more sense to have them in a different team and compete against each other. It would be more attractive, more fun. It would make more sense also for any manager. I don’t think they can be in the same dressing room. Not that they wouldn’t get along, it’s not that I’m saying that. In terms of Messi’s mind, being the leader, you can only have one. So I think having them in a different franchise would make more sense.”
Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi are in the twilight of their careers and are unlikely ever to play on the same team. The former Real Madrid forward is in the final year of his contract at Al-Nassr, while the Argentine has two years left on his Inter Miami contract.
