Cody Rhodes retained the Undisputed WWE Championship against Gunther at Clash in Italy. However, the finish was highly controversial. The Ring General’s foot was underneath the bottom rope during the pinfall, but the referee couldn’t notice and completed the count.
The Austrian star argued with the official following the bout and walked away in frustration. Few people in WWE are more dangerous than a frustrated Gunther, and Rhodes could get a first-hand experience on this week’s SmackDown.
Thanks for the submission!
The American Nightmare won the title in March by defeating Drew McIntyre and went on to defend it against Randy Orton in a chaotic match at WrestleMania 42. Clash in Italy was Rhodes’ second title defense in his current reign, but the controversial manner in which he won the bout might end up costing him.

Gunther has demonstrated in the past that his reaction to losing usually spells trouble for others. The Ring General had been on a dominant run since returning to action in November last year. The Austrian star won the Last Time is Now Tournament and went on to make John Cena tap out in his final in-ring outing.
He then retired AJ Styles at Royal Rumble and defeated Seth Rollins at WrestleMania 42. However, the loss to Cody Rhodes at Clash in Italy has ended the Austrian star’s winning streak and affected his momentum. An irate Gunther could take out his frustrations on The American Nightmare on this week’s SmackDown.
The Ring General could brutally attack Rhodes on Friday. Although he has blindsided the Undisputed WWE Champion on multiple occasions in recent weeks, this time, Gunther could take things too far. The Career K**er is no stranger to pushing boundaries, and fans could see a brutal example of the same on the upcoming SmackDown.
Cody Rhodes may have to leave the arena on a stretcher and be sidelined for several weeks as a result. That said, this scenario is only based on speculation, and nothing has been confirmed. It remains to be seen how Gunther reacts to the loss this Friday.
Cody Rhodes responds to Roman Reigns’ comments at Clash in Italy
Roman Reigns retained the World Heavyweight Championship against Jacob Fatu in a Tribal Combat at Clash in Italy. After the win, the OTC cut a promo while walking up the ramp and took shots at Cody Rhodes.
Speaking on the Clash in Italy post-show, The American Nightmare responded to Reigns’ comments.
“I think it’s a unique position to be in for me to say something negative or for him to say something negative about me and it’s for the simple fact that he doesn’t have two wins over me. I don’t have two wins over him. He beat me once, and I beat his a** once. So I don’t know. Add him to the list cause we said Gunther can have a rematch whenever he wants it, come and get it, easy to find, hard to beat. That goes for Roman Reigns as well.” said Rhodes. [H/T: WrestlePurists]
Reigns has asked Jey Uso to win the King of the Ring Tournament and win the Undisputed WWE Championship from Cody Rhodes at SummerSlam.
