Chelsea hero Gary Cahill believes Maxence Lacroix can help take the club to the next level. He claimed that the Frenchman is a great player and a smart signing made by the club.

Speaking to the club website, Cahill said that Chelsea have got Lacroix at the right time in his career. He added that it was also the ideal time for the Frenchman to be making the switch, as he can build on the platform he has set so far and said:

“He’s a great player and it’s a really smart signing. I think he’s at a great age now as well and he’s had that experience of playing regularly in the Premier League. There’s still plenty of years ahead of him to progress and learn. And to come to a club like Chelsea, it gives him that platform to kick on.”

“He’s obviously been involved at the World Cup with the French national team and he’s put himself on that platform and into that sort of pedigree now. But again, similar to when I moved to Chelsea, you get that opportunity to take your career to the next level.”

Cahill went on to state that the level at Crystal Palace is good enough to help any player hit the ground running at Stamford Bridge and said:

‘I just think he’s a great player, it’s a really good signing, and a move that I’m sure he’s really looking forward to getting stuck into and aiming to hit the ground running. I was at Palace for a couple of years, and I enjoyed my time there. He’s done the same and he’s progressed while he’s been there. It’s a big move for him, but also for the club and it will be exciting to see him come through the door and get started here.”

Chelsea signed Lacroix for £52 million and unveiled the signing this week. He is yet to join pre-season training, but was at Cobham for his medical and media duties.

Xabi Alonso on Chelsea signing Gary Maxence Lacroix

Xabi Alonso admitted that he is a fan of Maxence Lacroix and was delighted to have him in the squad. He heaped praise on the defender, saying that he was bringing maturity and a winning mentality to the club.

Lacroix has signed a contract until 2032, penning a six-year deal at Stamford Bridge. He is expected to make the pre-season squad late next week.
