WWE Summer Tour returned on Thursday as stars from RAW and SmackDown stopped over in Springfield for a live event ahead of SummerSlam. The event featured multiple title matches and ended on a shocking note with Cody Rhodes seemingly turning heel.
The show kicked off with the Intercontinental Title Match, where Penta defended his championship against Chad Gable and Ethan Page in a triple threat match. The Luchador will also be in action at SummerSlam, where he will face just Gable in a singles match. While Penta was able to retain the title despite the odds being against him, he will have his task cut out at WWE’s upcoming premium as Gable is determined to win his first singles title in the company.

Next up, we had a singles match between Charlotte Flair and Jade Cargill. The match was also slated for SummerSlam, but as per reports, an injury to Rhea Ripley derailed the plans. The highly-anticipated bout ended in DQ after B-Fab and Michin attacked The Queen. Tiffany Stratton and Chelsea Green came to even the odds, and set up a six-woman tag team match, where the babyfaces came out on top.
Elsewhere on the card, Oba Femi destroyed Dominik Mysterio in a singles match to head into SummerSlam with momentum. This was followed by a Matt Cardona victory over Kit Wilson. Next, The Bron Breakker and Austin Theory of The Vision defeated The Usos to retain the World Tag Team Championship while Trick Williams defeated Baron Corbin, Carmelo Hayes and Ricky Saints in a Fatal Four-Way match for the United States Championship.
The event was headlined by Cody Rhodes and CM Punk, who once joined forces to defeat Gunther and Sami Zayn. However, the American Nightmare “accidentally” hit the WWE Champion after the match, which caused an altercation between the two.
