Jimmie Johnson co-owned Legacy Motor Club announced Scott Dixon among a group of celebrity investors for the organization. The six-time IndyCar Series champion became one of the members of the strategic ownership group just weeks after sparking controversy with his nap comments regarding the Cup Series.

The announcement made on Thursday (July 30) immediately reignited the debate among fans, with many recalling Dixon’s earlier comments about Cup races and questioning the irony of his involvement in a NASCAR team.

LMC revealed a major expansion of its ownership group in a team release, bringing in nearly a dozen new investors. The list includes several high-profile names from motorsports and entertainment, with IndyCar legends Dixon, Tony Kanaan, and Dario Franchitti joining existing celebrity investors such as Grammy Award-winning singer/songwriter Darius Rucker and Emmy Award-winning television host Guy Fieri.

After the announcement, Dixon drew criticism for his Cup racing comments, and those remarks didn’t sit well with many NASCAR fans, and his investment in LMC reopened the conversation.

Here are some of fans’ reactions:

“Scott Dixon?? The guy who said nascar was boring.” One fan wrote.

@LEGACYMotorClub Scott Dixon?? The guy who said nascar was boring..

“But I thought Scott said he takes naps during Cup races 🤔” another fan commented.

@LEGACYMotorClub But i thought Scott said he takes naps during Cup races 🤔

“Good move bringing in Dixon after he said he could nap during Cup races” a third user said.

    “Scott Dixon lol” another wote.

“Jesus Christ how many fucking owners does this team need” a fifth fan said.

    2. Kelly Slater: 11x Surfing World Champion

In a team release, Jimmie Johnson said:

“This is not a traditional ownership group. It is a collection of people who understand competition, leadership, innovation, storytelling, and how enduring organizations are built. They come from different worlds but share a common belief: that LEGACY can become something fundamentally different within motorsports and culture.”

Jimmie Johnson’s LMC team fields two Cup Series entries with the #42 of John Hunter Nemechek and the #43 of Erik Jones. They are likely to expand to a three-full-time team next season.
