BMW Has Already Sold Over 10,000 iX3 EVs

    • The new BMW iX3 is proving to be a massive success in Europe.
    • BMW’s first Neue Klasse-based EV has reached a little over 10,000 customers in a single month.
    • In April, the new iX3 was the best-selling EV in its class in Europe.

BMW seems to have a winner on its hands with the new iX3. The brand’s first Neue Klasse-based model was the best-selling electric model in its class in Europe in April, racking up 10,299 deliveries, according to market research firm Dataforce.

That’s just one month after deliveries of the iX3 kicked off in Europe in March, and enough to propel the electric SUV to seventh place on the list of the top-selling premium mid-size SUVs in the January-to-April period.

By comparison, the combustion-powered Mercedes-Benz GLC sold 41,227 units and placed first, followed by the BMW X3 with 38,389 cars. That said, the iX3 outpaced the Polestar 4, Audi Q5 Sportback, and Porsche Macan, which have been on sale for longer.

The BMW iX3’s success, coupled with the increasing sales numbers of one of its main rivals, the new Mercedes-Benz GLC EV, has led to a turnaround in the overall sales in the segment, with an 8% jump compared to the first four months of last year. By contrast, sales in the same period in 2025 had increased by just 1% compared to 2024, so this year brings a noticeable improvement.

It’s not hard to see why the iX3 has been so successful so early. With up to 434 miles of EPA-estimated driving range, an impressive 400-kilowatt maximum charging power, and a $62,850 starting price in the United States, the iX3 is actually a better deal than a comparable gas-powered X3 M50 xDrive.

Thanks to its 800-volt architecture, the electric crossover needs just 21 minutes to recharge from 10-to-80%, making it a great choice for long-distance travel. The dual-motor, 463-horsepower setup also helps.

But the iX3 is not alone. Both the Mercedes-Benz GLC EV and the Volvo EX60 follow a similar recipe, with prices comparable to their gas-powered counterparts, bespoke 800V platforms that allow for blisteringly fast charging speeds, and plenty of range.

As a result, people have flocked to these three EVs, placing tens of thousands of orders for them. BMW boasted about receiving no fewer than 50,000 firm orders for the iX3, prompting it to add an extra shift at its Debrecen factory ahead of schedule. At the same time, Volvo has 40,000 units scheduled for production this year, while Mercedes-Benz said that the order books for the electric GLC are “already filled well into the second half of 2026.”

Mind you, all of these figures are for Europe alone. All three electric crossovers will head to the United States by the end of this year, where they’ll compete with cars like the Cadillac Optiq and Tesla Model Y.
