In a move that shocked fans watching the show, after his match against Bear Bronson in GCW Melee, Richard Holliday took off his boots and left them in the middle of the ring. Typically, that gesture is associated with a wrestler retiring, but the star’s decision to do this has left fans speculating as to his reasoning. It seems to at least herald an end to his career in GCW, if not all of pro wrestling.
The star has been in the rumor mill as a potential signing for WWE that the company is very interested in. Thus, leaving the boots seems to indicate only the end of his run with GCW and that he could indeed be signing with WWE, as the rumors previously hinted at.
A report by Fightful Select had previously mentioned him as a star that the company was very interested in bringing in. WWE confirmed that Baron Corbin returned on the July 10 episode of SmackDown.
Now, the star’s next move is still uncertain. At 33 years of age, the best years of his wrestling career are still in front of him. Already, he’s had a massively successful career in wrestling. Starting in 2015, he’s held multiple world titles, including in NWA, MLW, IWA, ACW, and others.
While his GCW run may be over, his run with other companies may still take some time to wind down, so even now, fans may have to wait quite some time before seeing them in the Florida wrestling promotion.
