The Mubadala DC Open will witness an all-Asian clash on Tuesday, July 28 as Alexandra Eala and Qinwen Zheng face off against each other for their opening round match in Washington. The duo are scheduled to be in action at 1:00 PM local time and fans can expect their battle to produce fireworks.

For Eala, this WTA 500 will mark the beginning of her hard court season. The Filipino phenom enjoyed some excellent performances on the surface earlier this year, registering a semifinals finish at the ASB Classic and quarterfinals appearances at the Phillipine Women’s Open, Abu Dhabi Open and Dubai Tennis Championships. Eala was most recently seen in action on grass, where she picked up a title at the Birmingham Classic and upset Iga Swiatek at Wimbledon.

On the other side of the net, Zheng began her hard court swing at the Hellenic Championship earlier this month. The Chinese star kicked off her campaign in Athens by upsetting sixth seed Jessica Bouzas Maneiro in straight sets, before ousting Elena Micic 6-4, 6-1. She fell short in the quarterfinals against eventual champion Barbora Krejcikova. Overall, Zheng has had a lukewarm 2026 season with an 11-11 win-loss record.

Fans can expect the battle between Eala and Zheng to produce some excellent tennis. The former boasts of an agressive game style from the baseline that might give her an edge, while her Chinese opponent will be counting on her lethal serve to move the needle in her favour. Overall, Eala enters this match having put up stronger performances in 2026. While Zheng’s recent run in Athens might be a sign of things turning around for the 23-year-old, Eala will likely hold a mental advantage in their clash on Tuesday.

Pick: Alexandra Eala to win in three sets.
