Taylor Fresh Foods has recalled 20 prepared foods containing jalapeños, including 16 products distributed in Texas. The action follows a supplier recall involving peppers linked to a multistate Salmonella outbreak.

Taylor Farms Recalls 16 Texas Products Over Salmonella Risk

Taylor Fresh Foods has recalled 20 prepared food products containing jalapeños because of possible Salmonella contamination. Sixteen of the listed products were distributed to Texas retailers, including Kroger, Target, Trader Joe’s, Walmart and Whole Foods.
The affected foods include salsa, guacamole, dips, a roast beef sandwich and a shrimp salad. Their “Best If Used By” dates range from August 7 through August 16, 2026.

The nationwide recall covers products shipped to retail distribution centres across 26 states.

Recalled Texas Foods Include Salsa, Dips and Salads

Consumers in Texas should check refrigerators for the following products:

    • Kroger: Private Selection Spicy Roast Beef Sandwich, 8.53 oz; Spicy Jarlsberg Dip, 10 oz; and Spicy Pimento Cheese Dip, 10 oz.
    • Target: Taco Dip, 20 oz; Mango Pico de Gallo, 11 oz; Spicy Guacamole, 13 oz; Taylor Farms Pico de Gallo, 16 oz; and Taylor Farms Authentic Guacamole, 13 oz.
    • Trader Joe’s: Fiesta Style Salad with Shrimp, 11.11 oz.
    • Walmart: Freshness Guaranteed Mild Pico de Gallo, 10 oz.
    • Whole Foods: Salsa Fresca Medium, 12 oz; Pico de Gallo Mild, 10 oz; Pico de Gallo Spicy, 10 oz; Salsa Verde Mild, 12 oz; Salsa Roja Medium, 12 oz; and Pineapple Mango Salsa Mild, 10 oz.

Consumers should compare the product name, package size, UPC and date printed on the container with the complete FDA recall notice.(1✔ ✔Trusted Source

Recalled Jalapeños Were Traced to a Mexican Grower

The recall began after Coast Citrus Distributors recalled fresh jalapeños over possible Salmonella contamination. Federal investigators identified a grower in Sinaloa, Mexico, that supplied Coast Citrus as the potential outbreak source.

Taylor Fresh Foods said it had stopped obtaining peppers from the grower:
“Taylor Fresh Foods is no longer sourcing products from this farmer and will be filling orders from alternative suppliers.”

The company initiated its downstream recall because the implicated jalapeños had been used in prepared foods. (1✔ ✔Trusted Source

Jalapeño-Linked Salmonella Outbreak Reaches 27 States
CDC and FDA investigators have linked jalapeños distributed by Coast Citrus to a multistate outbreak of Salmonella Javiana infections.

As of August 10, the investigation had identified:

    • 345 illnesses across 27 states
    • 36 hospitalisations
    • No reported deaths

Texas is among the states reporting outbreak cases. However, Taylor Fresh Foods said it was not aware of any illnesses specifically linked to its recalled finished products at the time of its announcement.

This distinction is important: the wider outbreak is linked to the implicated jalapeños, while a direct illness connection to a particular Taylor Farms retail product had not been confirmed.

Recalled Products Should Not Be Eaten

Consumers who find an affected product should not taste or consume it, even if it looks or smells normal. They should:

    • Throw the product away or return it to the place of purchase for a refund.
    • Clean and sanitize refrigerator shelves, containers and surfaces touched by the food.
    • Wash hands thoroughly after handling the package.
    • Retain the label or purchase information if illness develops.
    • Contact Taylor Farms at 855-455-0098 with product-related questions.

Freezing does not reliably eliminate Salmonella. Recalled products stored in a freezer should also be discarded.(2✔ ✔Trusted Source

Salmonella Symptoms Can Develop Several Days Later

Salmonella infection commonly causes diarrhea, fever and stomach cramps. Nausea, vomiting, headache and loss of appetite may also occur.

Symptoms generally begin between six hours and six days after exposure and usually last four to seven days. Most people recover without specific treatment, but diarrhea and vomiting can cause dehydration.

Children younger than five, adults aged 65 or older and people with weakened immune systems face a greater risk of severe disease and hospitalization.

    Severe Symptoms Require Medical Attention

People who ate a recalled product should seek medical advice for bloody or persistent diarrhoea, high fever, repeated vomiting or signs of dehydration. They should inform their healthcare provider about the recalled jalapeño-containing food(2✔ ✔Trusted Source
