The Boston Red Sox’s game against the Toronto Blue Jays on Monday witnessed a bizarre sequence in the seventh inning when Anthony Seigler scored for the AL East team after the runners lost count of the outs.
Red Sox slugger Ceddanne Rafaela struck a fly ball towards center with two runners on base. The runners, Anthony Seigler and Nick Sogard, thought there were two outs instead of one in the inning and the Blue Jays turned an inning-ending double play.
However, the Red Sox challenged (timing play) and the call was overturned as Seigler crossed home plate before the third out, scoring a run to make it 2-1 to Boston.

Apart from Rafela, who is on a $50 million contract, Sogard and Seigler, the Blue Jays scoreboard also forgot the number of outs as it showed two outs instead of one.

Although the Red Sox scored to make it a one-run game in the seventh inning, the Blue Jays held their division rivals scoreless over the next two innings to secure a 2-1 win.
It was a third consecutive defeat for the Red Sox, who are now two games behind the Yankees in the race for an AL Wild Card spot.
