AEW may be the reason WWE might have hesitated to flaunt its SummerSlam attendance this year. The Premium Live Event took place at U.S Bank Stadium. It was a memorable show that saw returns of Randy Orton and Kevin Owens. Approximately 60,000 fans attended the show on both nights. Every year, at SummerSlam and WrestleMania, the company likes to reveal the number of fans in the building. However, they didn’t announce it this year.
Tony Khan’s promotion is set to return at Wembley Stadium later this month. With just a few weeks for the pay-per-view, All In has sold more than 30,000 tickets. The tickets have sold faster since both world title matches have been made official following the Redemption pay-per-view, and the number might easily exceed 40,000.
While speaking on the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer claimed that he believes the reason WWE didn’t announce attendance was that All Elite Wrestling will likely sell more than the event for All In.
“I think partially it is because AEW’s beating their number. Even if they went and said 40,000… AEW’s probably beating 40,000. So I think it’s probably like, ‘We can’t be saying anything.’ If they were happy, we would have heard an announcement. The fact that we did not hear an announcement tells you that they are very much downplaying it. Actually, they got it up to 33,086. That was the final update this afternoon. 33,086 for Night Two. It was 21,000 not that long ago, and they papered it to get it to 32,000,” he said. [H/T – Drainmaker’s X]
WWE veteran criticised WWE SummerSlam being two nights
While speaking on Behind the Turnbuckle Studios, veteran Jonathan Coachman said that WWE doesn’t need two nights of SummerSlam, as the company could draw decent attendance with a one-night show.
“There doesn’t need to be two nights because if we had this one night properly priced, you could put 66,000, and it would look amazing. They’re trying to not only cap ticket prices; they’re trying to be greedy and double down. No more two-night shows. It’s got to stop,” he said.
It will be interesting to see how many tickets All In sells.
