“Our findings suggest that susceptibility to overeating hyperpalatable foods, such as sugary drinks, fried foods and potato chips, is partially rooted in our genes,” said Dr. Julie Gervis, a postdoctoral research fellow at the Center for Genomic Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital.

The researchers examined data from nearly half a million participants enrolled in the UK Biobank. Volunteers had previously submitted DNA samples and completed detailed questionnaires about their eating habits, food preferences, and overall health.
