Ahead of the WNBA trade deadline on Sunday, two-time WNBA champion Kelsey Plum had generated interest from several teams, including the New York Liberty.

According to WNBA insider Madeline Kenney on Saturday, the Liberty have entered the Plum sweepstakes, which reportedly includes the Atlanta Dream and the Phoenix Mercury.

Many fans reacted to the latest trade intel about Plum. Several noted that the Liberty already boast a loaded roster, while one social media user proposed trading Angel Reese for the LA Sparks star.

“HOW MUCH HELP SABRINA (IONESCU) NEED OMFG,” a fan said.

“KP for (Angel Reese)?” another fan tweeted.

    Here are other reactions:

@UnderdogWNBA @madkenney I think KP would lean towards Phoenix for training facility alone 😅

@UnderdogWNBA @madkenney How much help do the super team Liberty and the Dream Team need??? lol

@UnderdogWNBA @madkenney Why? She doesn’t fill a need for any of them

@UnderdogWNBA @madkenney Only one that makes sense rn is Liberty

Fans are intrigued by the concept of Plum joining the star-studded cores of Atlanta and New York. With the Liberty, she would join All-Stars Ionescu, Breanna Stewart, Jonquel Jones and Satou Sabally. For the Dream, their potential starting lineup could be Plum, Allisha Gray, Rhyne Howard, Naz Hillmon and Reese.

Plum is in her second season with the Sparks and is averaging a career-high 23.9 points and 6.4 assists on 52.7% shooting. The five-time WNBA All-Star signed a one-year, $999,999 contract in April. The Athletic’s Annie Costabile reported on Tuesday that Plum does not intend to re-sign with the Sparks in free agency.

This has led to speculation that LA may trade Plum before Sunday’s deadline to avoid losing her for nothing this offseason.

Kelsey Plum trade discussions continue as Sparks’ asking price remains ‘high’

According to ESPN’s Alexa Philippou on Saturday, the LA Sparks continue to engage teams in trade conversations about Kelsey Plum.

The 5-foot-8 star has been sidelined for the last 11 games due to a lower leg injury. Philippou added that if Plum remains with LA past Sunday’s trade deadline, she will play under a minutes restriction.

The Athletic’s Annie Costabile reported Saturday that there is still a gap between the Sparks and other teams regarding Kelsey Plum’s trade value.

Costabile’s reporting doubled down on an ESPN story from Philippou and Malika Andrews on Thursday that said LA’s asking price for Plum is considered “too high.” The Sparks star is viewed by opposing teams as a “rental” since she will become an unrestricted free agent after the season.
