The New York Yankees’ offensive struggles escalated over the weekend after All-Star outfielder Cody Bellinger was placed on the 10-day injured list due to a hamstring injury.
With the Yankees already missing Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton, Bellinger’s absence is another big blow to their AL East title aspirations. MLB insider Jim Bowden floated a potential trade to fix the Yankees’ offensive issues on the “GM Territory” podcast.
Bowden floated a trade for Washington Nationals star C.J. Abrams, who is on a $4,200,000 contract. The MLB insider suggested a trade package of Anthony Volpe and George Lombard Jr. for the Nationals shortstop.

“CJ Abrams, Iitwould take a boatload to get him,” Bowden said (Timestamp – 9:00 onwards). It would have to start with George Lombard, Jr.
“If George Lombard Jr. is in the conversation, there is a pathway for the Yankees to acquire Abrams. In fact, a package of Anthony Volpe and Lombard might get Abrams, which I think would be a great deal for both sides to be honest.”
Abrams, who is under club control through the 2028 season, is posting ccareer-bestoffensive numbers across the board. The 25-year-old shortstop has 27 home runs for the season and could prove to be a valuable bat in the Yankees lineup if the Nationals move him at the trade deadline.
Yankees outfielder Cody Bellinger set to undergo further scans to evaluate injury
Although the Yankees placed Cody Bellinger on the 10-day injured list over the weekend, the timeline of the All-Star outfielder’s return remains uncertain. He is expected to undergo an MRI on Monday to evaluate the extent of his injury.
“It just felt like I won’t be able to put on the cleats for the next four days at least, so being short-manned for that long, you never know,” Bellinger said.“So get a full roster up here and give the guys as much opportunity as they can.”
The Yankees started Max Schuemann in left field for Sunday’s series finale against the Philadelphia Phillies after Bellinger was placed on the injured list.
