Volvo Electric semi trucks charge up American Truck Simulator

Players can experience the same design vision and freight hauling operation experienced in real-world scenarios

American Truck Simulator’s players can finally get a taste of what it’s like to climb into the cab of a Volvo VNL and VNR Electric semi trucks as the big BEVs become the first-ever electric truck to be featured in the over-the-road driving game.

American Truck Simulator has a diverse pool of over 7 million players that includes casuals, truck enthusiasts, and even professional drivers. Unlike most driving games, however, the goal isn’t to win a race – it’s to haul cargo, earn money, buy trucks, and expand your fleet into a full-blown logistics empire. And now, that empire can include some of the most popular electric semi trucks on the road: the Volvo VNL and VNR Electric.

“This is a very exciting way to introduce our trucks, both the diesel and the battery-electric version, to millions of truck enthusiasts around the world,” explains Peter Voorhoeve, president of Volvo Trucks North America. “American Truck Simulator has built an incredibly passionate community that appreciates great trucks and authentic driving experiences. We’re proud that the most modern trucks on North American roads are now part of that experience.”

The latest version of American Truck Simulator will allow players to explore the deserts of Arizona, the streets of downtown Chicago, an just about everything in between on America’s historic Route 66 highway.

Virtual drivers will be able to experience both the Volvo VNR Electric – the first heavy-duty electric truck introduced in the US and Canada back in 2020 with more than 750 units are operating across the continent and collectively logging over 30 million miles – as well as the new VNL Electric first introduced earlier this year at the ACT Expo, which features a new e-axle configuration, ePTO tech, and longer range than the regional-haul VNR.

Putting electric semi trucks into the world’s most popular trucking simulator is a genius move, but the most surprising thing about this press release was the fact that no one else had put a BEV into the game before Volvo.

Here’s hoping the inclusion of more electric options can help show more truck fans how much fun these things are, and gets more of them to give batteries a chance IRL.
