SolarEdge is rolling out its next-generation home solar and battery storage platform across the US, with orders for SolarEdge Nexis now open.

The new platform is designed to eliminate some of the biggest headaches installers face when adding home battery storage, including lengthy installation times, complicated wiring, electrical panel upgrades, and limited options for where batteries can be installed.

SolarEdge says Nexis combines its latest inverter technology, battery storage, and energy management software into a more compact system that delivers more power while taking up less space than previous models. The platform can also be configured as an AC-coupled system, giving installers more flexibility for retrofit and new residential projects.

The US launch follows Nexis’ debut in Germany, where SolarEdge says the platform generated record order volumes and strong demand, thanks to its modular battery design and simplified installation process.

One of the biggest changes is the battery architecture. Instead of installing large, heavy battery packs, installers assemble lightweight modules that click together with no wiring between them. SolarEdge says the system can be installed in under 30 minutes.

Battery capacity starts at 5 kilowatt-hours (kWh) and can scale up to 80 kWh, allowing homeowners to size storage for everything from basic backup power to larger whole-home systems.

The new inverter delivers up to 13 kilowatts (kW) while connected to the grid and up to 14.5 kW during outages. SolarEdge also says the system supports up to 185 locked rotor amps (LRA), enabling it to start large HVAC systems during backup operation.

The company says Nexis uses up to 40% less wall space than comparable systems and that a single inverter platform can support residential installations ranging from 3.8 kW to 13 kW. The equipment is also US-manufactured, which can help projects qualify for domestic content requirements.

Tate Abdon, director of installations at El Dorado Hills, California-based Senga Energy, said via SolarEdge that the new platform removes much of the complexity installers typically deal with.

“Before SolarEdge Nexis, every battery installation involved a lot of planning and labor,” Abdon said. He said the platform’s IslandDER option can eliminate backup load panels in many installations, reducing labor and materials, while the modular batteries are much easier for crews to carry and install.

“It’s honestly like building with Legos,” Abdon said. “In the end, we’re completing installations faster, using less conduit, reducing wall clutter, and delivering a cleaner finished product. It’s a better experience for both our installers and our customers.”

    Electrek’s Take

It’s been a rough ride for Israel-headquartered SolarEdge. The company was one of the biggest winners during the rooftop solar boom before the market turned in 2023, sending its stock into a steep decline, losing roughly 90% of its value. But Wall Street has warmed to the company again as its turnaround gains momentum, and Nexis is one of the products SolarEdge is counting on to keep that recovery going.
