Pilot travel centers are welcoming America’s summer road trippers with a number of new locations, an expanded, “coast-to-coast” EV charging network that offers 24/7 convenience and healthier c-store snacks and menu items.
Pilot Flying J has opened two new travel centers in Chicopee, Massachusetts, and Ponce de Leon, Florida while completing curb-to-counter upgrades at a number of travel centers in 13 states – a move that added 50 new publicly accessible DC fast charging sites and brought the company’s total number EV-friendly locations to 309, with 1,323 individual charging ports ready and waiting to juice up your ride.
The company says its charging experience is made different from what drivers may find elsewhere by by offering the same amenities, access and reliability that drivers have come to expect from the Pilot and Flying J brands – amenities that include 24/7 site monitoring, lighting, and (at many Pilot locations) overhead canopies to help drivers escape inclement weather.
“Pilot is focused on investing in areas that matter most to create spaces our guests want to return to and are worth staying for our team members,” explains Sean Marrero, President of Retail at Pilot. “Whether you’re stopping for a charge, a full tank, or a fresh meal this summer, we are making the most of every mile for every traveller on the open road.”
Growing fast
The number 300 makes a nice soundbite – but this post is more than a Pilot press release. The real news here is that, in less than a year, Pilot Flying J has gone from 200 EV charging locations to more than 300.
For those of you who are bad at math and/or never had Legos, that is a massive, 50% increase in public charging infrastructure in less than a year, and proof once again that the infrastructure needed to support the electric vehicle revolution is doing much more than “keeping pace” with the growth of plug-in vehicles in the US market.
The real question now is how long it will take for first time electric car buyers to stop believing the “range anxiety” hype.
