The UEFA Champions League second qualifying round kicks off with Georgian champions Iberia 1999 hosting Slovakian club SK Slovan Bratislava at the Mikheil Meskhi Stadium in Tbilisi on Tuesday. The winning side over two legs will move on to the third round of the UEFA Champions League qualifiers, while the losers will drop to the UEFA Europa League third qualifying round or the league phase.

Iberia 1999 are the current champions of the Georgian Erovnuli Liga, having earned 80 points from their 36 matches to finish top of the standings in 2025, two points ahead of second-placed Dila.

As the league winners, they booked their spot in the first qualifying round for the Champions League, where they beat Estonian side Flora Tallinn 5-4 on aggregate over two legs, winning 3-2 away and then drawing 2-2 at home for a narrow overall victory.

Formerly known as Saburtalo Tbilisi, Irberia are dominating the 2026 season of the Georgian top flight in first place, with 34 points from 19 games, two points above FC Rustavi in second place.

While they did well to beat Flora Tallinn in the first round, their second-round opponents have far more experience at this level.

Slovan Bratislava earned their place in the second qualifying round by winning the Slovakian Nike Liga in 2025-26, topping the table with 46 points from 22 games, three above second-placed DAC 1904.

The new domestic league season is yet to begin, so Vladimír Weiss’ team are in preseason mode, and they have played a selection of friendly matches to prepare for the European qualifiers and the start of the new league campaign.

In their most recent match, the Sky Blues beat Cypriot side Pafos 3-2, with goals from Andraz Sporar, Alasana Yirajang, and Rahim Ibrahim for Bratislava canceling out the strikes from Biel and David Goldar.

The second leg of this tie will take place at Tehelne Pole in Slovakia on Wednesday, 29 July.

Iberia 1999 vs Slovan Bratislava head-to-head stats and key numbers

    • The two sides have never met each other, and this will be the start of their head-to-head record.
    • Iberia 1999 have recorded three wins, one draw, and one loss in their last five games across all competitions.
    • Slovan Bratislava have won three, lost one, and drawn one of their last five matches.

Iberia 1999 vs Slovan Bratislava prediction

Slovan Bratislava qualified for the UEFA Champions League’s league phase in the 2024-25 season, and that will give them confidence that they can do it again. Before that, the Slovakian side had appeared in the Champions League qualifying rounds on a dozen occasions without reaching the main competition.

Iberia 1999 are expected to employ a disciplined, possession-based approach to control the tempo, while Slovan Bratislava typically adopt a high-pressing game aimed at exploiting transitions.

We see Iberia winning narrowly, with Bratislava confident that they can turn the tie in their favor in the return leg.

Prediction: Iberia 1999 2-1 Slovan Bratislava
