San Francisco 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan addressed the recent arrest of team owner Jed York in his media availability on Monday. York was arrested on Sunday morning in East Palestine, Ohio, after responding to an undercover advertisement on a known prostitution website.
According to police reports, the 49ers owner arranged a meeting using a pseudonym and was stopped by authorities upon arrival. York later pleaded no contest to misdemeanor charges of disorderly conduct and possessing criminal tools, receiving a fine and a one-day jail sentence for both.

The NFL is now reviewing the incident under its personal conduct policy, which could result in sanctions and penalties for Jed York. Speaking to the media on the issue that added another twist to the 49ers offseason, Kyle Shanahan described how difficult and personal the matter is.

“I got to talk to Jed the last two days and today,” Shanahan said, after he was asked his view on the issue and if he’s spoken to York. “Obviously, it’s a very tough situation. Views for the organization going forward is the same as usual. There won’t be any difference in that.

“But I know it’s extremely fresh. I think it’s a very, very personal situation. I got a lot of respect for Jed. I got a lot of respect for Danielle. Their family does mean a lot to me. And with it being this personal, I’m trying as hard as I can to keep it that way.”
Kyle Shanahan says nothing changes in decision-making
Despite the arrest of Jed York and the ongoing review by the NFL, Kyle Shanahan made it clear that things will remain the same in terms of decision-making with the 49ers. He also noted that the staff and front office will continue to get the necessary report to the owner via the usual channel.
“It’s the same as always,” Shanahan said. “Jed has been as good as it gets since I’ve been here on letting the football people make football decisions. Jed always wants to be informed and a part of things, but Jed has been exactly what he said he would be.
“And letting us make those decisions, he always wants to know about them and stuff, and whether he’s here in the building or a text away or on a phone call, that doesn’t change anything.”
Kyle Shanahan also said he had nothing to discuss with the players regarding the arrest when questioned about it in his media availability. For the coach, the priority remains supporting the owner on a personal level while keeping the locker room centered on the work at hand.
