The LA Sparks have been rumored as one of the teams that are interested in Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark. The two-time WNBA All-Star’s future with Indiana had been widely speculated this week following reports of an alleged rift.
Rumors were ignited following an intense interaction between Clark and Fever coach Stephanie White during Saturday’s 100-84 loss to the Portland Fire. Several people blasted Indiana and speculated that the star guard might soon leave the team.
According to sports analyst Jason Whitlock on Friday, the Sparks, who have a $400 million valuation per Sportico, are a team to watch in the Clark sweepstakes. He added that longtime UCLA Bruins coach Cori Close might replace current Sparks coach Lynne Roberts.
Many had been disappointed with Indiana’s slow start to the 2026 season. The Fever split their first eight games and are currently 5-4. Some fans blasted White and the coaching staff for their allegedly not maximizing Clark’s talents.
On Thursday, Clark said Indiana’s 83-71 win over the Atlanta Dream should quash any rumor or speculation about the state of her team.
“I’m gonna say this in the nicest way possible, but hopefully it makes a lot of people just be quiet,” Clark said. “I know there’s always going to be conversation, and I totally respect that, and I always understand that, but the sky is not falling.”
Two-time NBA champion says the LA Sparks should pursue Caitlin Clark
Amid the alleged tension within the Indiana Fever locker room, two-time NBA champion Mychal Thompson speculated that Caitlin Clark might soon be traded. Thompson then urged the LA Sparks to acquire the two-time WNBA All-Star.
“I’m hearing from a reliable source the Fever don’t want Caitlin no more…SPARKS…Go get her…NOW!!!” Thompson tweeted Thursday.
Thompson, the father of Dallas Mavericks star Klay Thompson, played the final five seasons of his 12-year NBA career with the LA Lakers. The 6-foot-10 big man was part of the “Showtime” Lakers’ back-to-back championship teams in 1987 and 1988.
Through eight games, Caitlin Clark is averaging 19.8 points, 8.1 assists and 4.4 rebounds on 38.7% shooting.
