WWE legend AJ Styles retired from in-ring competition earlier this year. The 49-year-old was arguably at the top of his game before he decided to hang up his boots. Hence, many fans want him to return to the ring for another match.

In his final run as an in-ring competitor, AJ Styles captured the World Tag Team Championship alongside Dragon Lee. After Gunther retired John Cena, Styles kicked off a heated feud against The Ring General. At Royal Rumble 2026, the duo squared off in a career-threatening match. The legend lost to the Austrian superstar via submission, marking the end of his illustrious career.

AJ’s son, Avery Styles, made his pro wrestling debut in June 2026. Avery has impressed many with his performances on the independent circuit in recent weeks. Last month, the upstart also wrestled his first match in GCW.

On The AJ Styles Show, The Phenomenal One discussed the prospect of returning to the squared circle. Styles said he didn’t want to share the ring with his sons on an independent wrestling show.

“Uh, but how long is it going to take my son or sons to get in the position where I’m able to do this show with them that matters? If it doesn’t matter, like I’m being honest with you, I’m probably not going to come back for an indie show. I mean, even if it’s the wrestle with my boys, I probably don’t want to do that,” AJ said.

The Hall of Famer disclosed that he would like to team up with his sons on a major show. Styles added that his potential comeback depends on how long it would take for his sons to make it big in their pro wrestling careers.

“I don’t mind being a special guest and like a manager kind of thing, but if I do come back, hopefully I’m not 60, and it’s on a big show. I would definitely (…) Who wouldn’t? What father wouldn’t want to come back and tag with his sons. Um, so I don’t know if that opportunity will come because it depends on how long it’s going to take him,” AJ said. [H/T: Ringside News]

AJ Styles is Skeptical About Potentially Coming Out of Retirement

AJ Styles remains part of pro wrestling despite retiring from in-ring competition. He has taken up a backstage role in WWE after losing to Gunther at Royal Rumble 2026. The Phenomenal One is a talent scout and mentor for the sports entertainment juggernaut. He has also been coaching up-and-coming wrestlers at the Performance Center.

In the same edition of The AJ Styles Show, the Hall of Famer said he was concerned about his physical condition regarding a potential comeback. Styles added that he was unsure whether he would be able to get in ring shape for another match.

Fans must stay tuned to find out if the legend shares the ring with Avery in the coming years.
