Team India are without their pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah in the ODI series opener against Afghanistan. The match kicked off at Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala on Saturday, June 13.

Several fans were curious about Bumrah’s absence from the side, considering he has been a key member of the Indian team across formats. The star speedster has been rested for the three-match series as part of his workload management.

Bumrah also missed the recently concluded one-off Test between India and Afghanistan. Revealing the reason behind the 32-year-old’s absence, chief selector Ajit Agarkar told the media after the squad announcement:

“Bumrah will be back when we tour England. He is working on his workload.”

Notably, Jasprit Bumrah has been rested for India’s upcoming T20I series against Ireland and England as well. It remains to be seen if he returns for the ODI leg of the England tour.

Meanwhile, India won the toss and elected to field first. The toss was delayed due to rain, and the match was subsequently reduced to 25-overs per side. Here are the two playing XIs for the game:

AFG: Ibrahim Zadran, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Sediqullah Atal, Rahmat Shah, Hashmatullah Shahidi(c), Azmatullah Omarzai, Ikram Alikhil(w), Rashid Khan, Mohammad Saleem Safi, AM Ghazanfar, Zia Ur Rahman Sharifi

IND: Shubman Gill(c), Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, Ishan Kishan(w), Washington Sundar, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Harsh Dubey, Gurnoor Brar, Arshdeep Singh, Prasidh Krishna

Jasprit Bumrah had a poor IPL 2026 campaign

Jasprit Bumrah was last seen in action during the 2026 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The Mumbai Indians (MI) star struggled for form and endured a disappointing campaign.

He picked up just four wickets across 13 outings at an economy rate of 8.36. The ace seamer finished with a dismal average of 102.50. His poor run was one of the reasons behind MI’s league-stage exit. The five-time champions were ninth in the points table with just four wins from 14 fixtures.
