TVS Motor Company reported a 158% year-on-year surge in electric two-wheeler sales in July, as the company posted its highest-ever monthly sales of 6.30 lakh units, underscoring the growing momentum for electric mobility amid higher fuel prices.

The company sold 60,934 electric two-wheelers in July, compared with 23,605 units in the year-ago month. Overall sales rose 38% to 629,675 units from 456,350 units a year earlier, TVS Motor said on Monday.

The sharp growth in TVS Motor’s electric two-wheeler sales comes as India’s broader EV market gains momentum, with higher fuel prices following the US-Iran conflict encouraging consumers to consider more economical modes of personal transportation.

Electric car sales nearly doubled year-on-year in July, rising 82% to 31,788 units from 17,509 units a year earlier, according to data from the road ministry’s Vahan portal. EVs accounted for 7.8% of new car sales in July, up from 5% a year earlier.

TVS Motor’s domestic two-wheeler sales rose 42% to 437,394 units in July from 308,720 units a year earlier. Total two-wheeler sales increased 38% to 603,138 units.

The company also recorded its highest-ever international business sales at 184,264 units, up 29% from 142,629 units in July 2025. International two-wheeler sales grew 27% to 165,744 units.Three-wheeler sales rose 51% to 26,537 units from 17,560 units a year earlier.

The broader electric vehicle market has seen a sustained increase in demand since the escalation of the US-Iran conflict and the consequent rise in fuel prices.

Maruti Suzuki said bookings for its electric SUV e-Vitara had doubled since the start of the war, with monthly bookings exceeding its current production capacity. Kia India has also said demand for EVs improved following the Gulf crisis and its impact on fuel prices.

Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility managing director Shailesh Chandra has said EV demand continues to outstrip supply, with the automaker seeing sequential sales growth.

Tata Motors retained its leadership of India’s electric car market with a 43% share in July, followed by Mahindra & Mahindra at 24%, JSW MG Motor India at 18% and Maruti Suzuki at 5%.

India’s broader auto market has remained resilient despite higher fuel and commodity costs. Car sales rose an estimated 34% year-on-year to 469,162 units in July, while manufacturers have largely prioritised maintaining production and meeting strong demand over fully passing higher input costs on to consumers.

Two-wheeler demand has also remained strong. Hero MotoCorp reported an 18.6% increase in total July sales to 533,416 units, with domestic sales rising 21.6% to 501,403 units.
